Welcome to the Cubs Den. I am an avid Cubs fan looking forward to them becoming World Champs. (No ifs ands or buts about it) Sooooo, sit back, relax, post, laugh, cry, vent, or just lurk while this fan will do his best to keep up with the future World Champs.
It’s opening day. (Wah Hoooooo) Unfortunately I can’t make it. Anyhoo, it ought to be a good one. Our ace Carlos Zambrano vs. Milwaukee ace Ben Sheets.
psssst...... GO GO GO FUTURE WORLD CHAMPS!!!!!!

hehehehe, good one Gordon, But, the Cubs have the Lord on their side.
And the Lord said "Oh my, it's been 100 years since the Cubs won a World Series. This season will go to the Cubs. I LORD will deliver the Cubs, and I will strike down, and cut off heads of those in the way.
psssst.....Now seriously, who will get eaten.

Anticipating Divine intervention is usually a sign of desperation, probably better to consider the mathematics of elimination if that is the alternative starting point

No Beer at Wrigley field. They lost the opener.
It was an exciting nail biting game. Both aces Carlos Zambrano & Ben Sheets were masterful. Sheets with a two hit shut out and Zambrano with a three hit shut out going in the seventh. Then the bullpen takes over. Kerry Wood, who at one time was the best in the business for starting pitchers, gave up three runs in the ninth. The Cubs came back in the bottom of the ninth with two guys on and a Fukudome homerun to tie. Milwaukee came back with a run in the tenth to win 4-3.
Cubs 0-1

Me thinks the Cubs have a great bullpen. Scott Eyre sucks and why Lou kept him is beyond me. I have mixed emotions with Kerry Wood. A great starter back in the day who through bad mechanics went down hill. Last year when Lou brought him back as a closer I thought way cool the Cubs had the makings of another Dennis Eckersley. I'm hoping this still happens but won't hold my breath.
”Kerry, a 2003 National League All-Star, has held major league batters to a .214 average during his seven-season big league career, allowing 856 hits in 1,109.0 innings while striking out 1,286 batters - the fourth-highest total in Cubs history...has a career ratio of 10.4 strikeouts for every 9.0 innings of work, recording 41 double digit strikeout affairs in his 174 big league starts...has struck out at least 200 batters four times, including a big league-high 266 in 2003...had three straight 200-strikeout campaigns from 2001-2003 - a feat surpassed in Cubs annals only by Fergie Jenkins (five consecutive seasons from 1967-1971)...on August 11, 2003, he reached the 1,000-strikeout mark for his career when he fanned Houston's Jeff Kent to end the 7th inning ...the strikeout came in his 134th major league game spanning 853.0 innings...became the fastest pitcher in big league history to reach the 1,000 level in both games.”

I've found that it's both easier and more fun to just make up the stats. Cool, give me some great Cub stats. I'll use them. Then when they say, where in the fuck did you get that? I can say, from the great baseballer of all times. Mr. *BB* himself. psssst..... I'm going to todays game. Sun is bright but a bit on the chilly side. Wrigley Field and the Cubs will take the chill away. GO GO CUBS!!!!!!!

4-2-08 0800 hrs. So, I said to myself *self* you got five days off. Why not pig out on the Cubs? *Self * says, ya mon, lets. Sooooooo, I toss my bicycle in the back of the Ranger and head for Chicago. More than not when going to Cub games, I park on the south side (Lake Meadows Park area) and pedal my way to the north side. Btw, BRAVO, to Chicago for having the reputation as being the bicycling capital of the United States. The city has always had strong government for the sport, especially the city’s mayors. Now iffin, I could only develop that liking for picture taking. Because, there’s a lot of good sites to see bicycling from the south side (east 31st street) to Wrigley Field. The sun was bright, a little on the cool side. (perfect bicycle weather) The Cub bats and pitchers were on the cool side too. Lilly who is our number two guy in the starting rotation was on the mound. Iffin, you like pitchers who pitch inside, and brush the batters back, Lilly is the guy to watch. Unfortunately, he had no control this game. First pitch to Milwaukee (Weeks) was a homer. Milwaukee led all the way till the end. 8-2 Cubs 0-2 I get home that evening, and hook up with my sweetie. (Sienna) I say, “Hey baby, you ought to play hooky, and go to the Cubs game tomorrow.” She says, “And bicycle to Wrigley?” I said, “Uh Huh.” She said, “Are you STONED? You know, I’m taking two days off in May, and there’s no way I can miss any work till then. And, you also know, I don’t get on a freaking bicycle unless the temperature is 65 (F) or above. How much weed did you smoke today?” I say, “Nada baby, I’m high on the FUTURE WORLD CHAMPS. THE CHICAGO CUBS!!!!!! Then I hear a, ya right. Anyhooo, I say, “since you can’t go to the game, how about picking me up after work and I’ll bike it to Wrigley from Crown Point tomorrow.” She said, “No, I’m not getting off work to go pick your ass up at Wrigley Field.” I said, “Come on baby, you won’t have to go to Wrigley, I’ll pedal back to Gejas (a great fondue place, that she loves) and meet you there. She said, “No” I said, “Come on baby, it’s been awhile since we have been to Gejas and you know how much you love the place.” Now, I see the wheel turning in her head as she says “ok, but you’ll owe me more than a meal for picking you up.” Now we will take a moment for our sponsors. Gejas Café, is one of the ten best eating spots in Chicago. Iffin, you ever make it to Chicago. Try to make it to Gejas Café. www.gejascafe.com/I’m up bright and early (0730) and head to the Erie Lackawanna bike trail, in route to Chicago. Dayem, I got to get a camera. Going through Hammond, I found a bike path that the Boy Scouts built on top of the Calumet River bank. A two mile, well built, very scenic path. Congrats, to the Boy Scouts. I had a nice 5-10 mph wind mostly at my back ride to Wrigley. It was a good game. Dempster who youse to be our closer, is the number three guy in our starting rotation. Milwaukee jumped on Dempster in the first, for two runs. It was all Cubs after that. Cubs win 6-3. Cubs 1-2 Getting home late that evening, I realized, I bit off more than I could chew. The ride was to long for that early in the bike season. Houston is coming to town and I’m so sore, I have no plans (other than to eat) to leave the sanctuary of my couch. Hill is on the mound today. He is our number four guy in the starting rotation. When he is in control of his curveball, he is exciting to watch. This game pissed me off as all games do that win by unearned runs. Two unearned runs by Houston caused the Cubs to beat themselves 4-3. Cubs 1-3 Psssst….Nothing like a couch potato day. Visions of accumulating enough money to live in sloth the rest of my life, entertain my thoughts for the day. Still in the couch potato mode. The son comes over to watch or should I say heckle the Cubs. I can't figure this one out. As a kid he was fed nothing but Cubs and turns out to be a White Sox fan. Where did I go wrong? Anyhoo, Marquis was on the mound. He is our number five guy in the starting rotation. A good sinkerball pitcher. Well, his sinkerball was so so. But, the Cubs bats were not, they were hot hot hot. Fourteen hits and nine runs, beats Houston 9-7. Cubs 2-3 My fifth day off and I can proudly say I have done nothing but watch the Cubs. Unfortunately, Today I had to run some errands. (Not by my choosing) Anyhooo, I did make it on time to watch our ace Zambrano. (I have to put plug in for Carlos Zambrano. This guy is a great athlete, and a true blue Cub. Last year he could have gotton a lot more money going elseware and choose to stay with the Cubs) The Big Z was sharp, throwing seven strong innings in the Cubs' 3-2 win over houston. Way to go for Kerry Wood with three saves in a row. Cubs @ .500 ball. Cubs 3-3 Gordon, after seeing youse guys signed Cabrera. I can see the October Headline *Cubs beats Tigers for World Champs*

This will be interesting to see how the top seven MLB team payrolls (for the opening day roster) will fare.

2. Tigers $138,685,197.................... 7-13
3. Mets $138,293,378 ..................... 10-8

"I'd rather win ugly than lose pretty," (manager Lou Piniella)
And that's what the Cubs did today. Both teams, Cubs and Pirates stunk up the field with unearned runs. Cubs win 10-8 Cubs 4-3

The Future World Champs had the day off today. I see there will be no beer at Shea Stadium too. They lost their opener. And WTF is up with Detroit? Them Tigers are 0-7. Now the big question is, are them White Sox for real?

oooooo la la, four wins in a row for them Future World Champs. Bravo, to Dempster for a seven inning, one hit, shut out start. The bull pen was shakey with Marmol giving up a run in the eighth and Wood giving up the tieing run in the ninth. But, the Future Champs came through with back to back extra inning wins with a fifteen inning 6-4 win. Cubs 5-3

Dayem, Where did I leave off? OK, got it, at Pittsburgh looking for the sweep. And a sweep it is for 5 in a row. 7-3 Cubs 6-3
On to Philadelphia, 5 in a row and our ace is on the mound. (Big Z) Cubs jump on the Phillies with 2 runs in the first but couldn't hold on. Phillies win 5-3 Cubs 6-4
Lilly is on the mound and gets pounded on. Phillies win 7-1 Cubs 6-5 (for the third straight start, Ted Lilly has had no control, allowing five runs in 4 1/3 innings)
We need to stop the BLEEDING!!!!! And, we do, with a winning ugly 6-5 win. (4-2 road trip) Cubs 7-5
Back to good old Wrigley. I went to this game and it was my kind of game. Dempster was on the mound and had great control. The Cubs played like World Champs. The long balls were being hit by the Cubs to hand the Reds a 9-5 loss. Cubs 8-5
Wham Bam, slap em again, and that's what we did. Still in the World Champ mode the Cubs slapped the Reds for 12 hits to win 12-3. Cubs 9-5
I missed todays game, looks like they got slapped back. Reds win 9-2 Cubs 9-6
As of today, Cubs are tied with Milwaukee for 2nd place and a game and a half from first. GO GO GO CUBBBIE BLUE!!!!!!!!
Enjoy it while it last, because the Future World Champs got their sights on that first place seat. GO GO GO CUBBIE BLUE!!!!!!!!
