Now that I got that out of the way. Them CUBBIES are hot. Marquis pitched six solid innings to get his first win, backed by a Lee homer, as the Cubs slapped the Pirates for a 13-1 win. Cubs 11-6 (1/2 game out of first)
pssssst.......Looking forward to the two Mets games Mon. and Tues. at Wrigley, and Colorado Weds. Thurs. in Colorado. (a battle among st contenders)

This makes a lot of sense. Since they just swept the Pirates and took over the number one spot in the NL Central division. Cubs 12-6 You logged in as southsider. Does that mean you're a White Sox's fan? If so, why not post something on the White Soxs? Instead you let your south side fucktard mentality show.

Game one with the Mets was a good one. It had a playoff feel to it. Both teams, Cubs and Mets were playing good heads up, close, baseball. Mets fell apart in the eighth, giving up five runs. Cubs win 7-1 Cubs 13-6 (first place)

Game two with the Mets was a whole different ball game. Ted Lilly (a pitcher I like a lot) wins his first game. The Cubs bats were hot with 14 hits for the sweep. The Cubs will have a four game series with the Mets in late September. Me thinks, the Cubs and Mets will battle it out for the NLCS, and those four games will be an inside look to that event. (time will tell) Cubs 14-6
On to Colorado. Our ace, the Big Z (Carlos Zambrano) was on the mound and pitched well. This game was a nail biter. Cubs were chipping away with 3-0 lead until bottom of the sixth. The Rockies came up with five runs, to take the lead 5-3. Cubs came back with a run in the seventh, and two in the ninth, to take the lead 6-5. The Rockies came back, with a run in the ninth to tie 6-6. Pie (pronounced pee-a, who I call, pee-you) hit a solo home run, for a 10 inning Cubs win. Cubs 15-6
Cubs beat themselves, with an error causing an unearned run. Rockies win 4-2 Cubs 15-7

On to play the Nationals for a three game series. Dempster was on the mound and pitched well. Cubs tied it up in the eighth 3-3 only for Howry to give up a two run homer in the ninth. Nationals win 5-3 Cubs 15-8 psssst...... Our center fielder Reed Johnson made an amazing catch. Some folks claiming to be the best. (you be the judge) www.cubsnet.com/node/2084Big Z on the mound for game two was masterful. Shut em out, 7-0 Cubs 16-8 One good deed deserves another as the Nationals came back and shut the Cubs out 2-0 Cubs 16-9 psssst..... Cubs are off today and going back to Wrigley for a three game series with Milwaukee. (a battle to keep first place)

Cubs are back at Wrigley. Milwaukee is in town for a three games series. Game one we have Marquis on the mound. Milwaukee had their ace Sheets on the mound. Marquis pitched a good game, but, not good enough. Brewers win 10-7 Cubs 16-10
In game two the blow em out was in full force. With Dempster on the mound the Cubs did blow them out 19-5. They had a 6 a 5 and a 6 run inning in this blowout. BTW, Cubs scored five or more runs in three or more innings in a game for only the second time since moving to Wrigley Field in 1916. Cubs 17-10
Game three was a heart breaker. With our ace Zambrano on the mound, Cubs kept a 3-1 lead till the bottom of the ninth. Our closer Wood gave up three runs to lose 4-3. Cubs 17-11 (this knocked us out of first)
Pssssst…..Bravo to the Cubs for having the best April ever.

How can you watch baseball with the NBA Playoffs going on. The Lakers sweep Denver in their opening series and the lowly Atlanta Hawks have taken the NBA's best season record team the Boston Celtic to game 7 in their series.
Teams don't really start playing baseball until the last 10 games of the season. Well everyone except the Mets. Thats when you start to watch baseball, everything up till then is only exhibition games.
So don't waste your time withe boys of summer, hit the courts and watch the cagers do their thing.
Go LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been a watching them Laker's.
The last time I felt this strongly about the Cubs becoming World Champs was 1969. They are finally going to do it, so I'm going to try and get all their games recorded here. Anyhoo, Game one with the Cards started off horrible. Our Fuck Up (Hill) was on the mound and walked the first four batters for an unearned run. The Cards were in control and flat out beating us 3-1. Soriano came through with a two run homer in the ninth to tie 3-3 only to lose 5-3 in eleven innings. Cubs 17-12 (1 1/2 games out of first)
Game two, with my favorite pitcher on the mound Lilly. The Cubs controlled the whole game. Winning 9-3 Cubs 18-12 (1/2 game out of first)

DT!! How's it going??? Losing 2 out of 3 to Washington, Milwaukee, and now St. Louis... that's gotta sting!

Post by DT on May 6, 2008 20:00:38 GMT -6
It does sting. Was hoping, they would take the number one spot back from St Louis, but it wasn't in the Cards! ) The two teams that have surprised me for the month of April are St Louis and Detroit. St Louis who is playing very well for a team rebuilding, coming off a below .500 year, and lots of off the job set backs, La Russa’s DUI, Josh Hanock killed, etc. My thinking was the Cubs and Brewers would be the two battling back in forth for the first place spot. Then along comes St Louis. I don’t watch too many AL teams, but wtf is up with Detroit. When they got Cabrera from Florida, I thought what an arsenal they have. Last, I heard they have won only four divisional games. (not good) Anyhoooo, Game three with St Louis was a stinger. We needed this one to reclaim the number one spot. Cubs were pretty much out of the game with the Cards controlling a 5-3 lead till the ninth. Cubs had bases loaded, one out, Issringhausen throws a pitch away which prompted Fontenot to try and score. We got stung with a bad call at the plate when Blue called Fontenot out. Cardinals win 5-3 Cubs 18-13 On to Cincy. Game one, we had Dempster on the mound, and me on the verge of a meltdown. With two Cubs errors, the Reds produced five fucking unearned runs to win 5-3. Cubs 18-14 Thursday, I'm heading out west to the best. The Las Vegas Hilton Race & Sports Super Book is where I can be found. psssst..... When it comes to Vegas, and Hedo vacations, my norm is three nights in Vegas, and not more than ten nights in Hedo. I'm going outside the norm and staying seven nights. Time will tell, iffin, it paid to go outside the norm.

Game two with the Reds. Our ace Zambrano was on the mound, and once again he was the master. Shut em out 3-0. Cubs 19-14 (2 1/2 games out)
psssst..... First place St Louis going strong with three wins in a row, and after winning five in a row, the Astros take over the third spot, in Central Division.

In the words of Harry Cary *HOLY COW* I got a lot of catching up to do. Any hooo, game three with the Reds was a nightmare. Not only did they shut the Cubs out. They spanked the shit out of us with 5 home runs, 15 hits, to win 9-0. Cubs 19-15
Thursday May 8, the Cubs are off, and Sienna and I are off to Vegas. More than not, I stay at the Las Vegas Hilton. Their race and sports Super Book is the Hedo of Vegas. It is a race and sports fan’s dream come true. They have 30 giant screens, and one massive 15’ x 20’ screen. Whether it’s a straight bet, team parlays, or a wager on your team to win the championship, the Super Book has it all. (And some) As far as staying at the hotel, this will be my last time. The rooms are getting old and the bathrooms are small. This never really bothered me in the past, but, having elevator problems the week we were there was the straw that broke the Camels back.
Friday May 9, I’m at the Sports Book four hours before the Cubs game. Having my bets in order I go up to the window and put a bet on the Cubs to win the Pennant and a bet to win the World Series. (This is my biggest baseball bet ever. $500.00 on 4-1 odds on a Pennant win, and $500.00 on 8-1 odds on a World Series win) I placed bets for the Cubs to sweep the Diamondbacks, and single bets to win daily on the Cubs/Diamondbacks series. I also bet a five team parlay. Cubs over Diamondbacks, Cardinals over Brewers, Phillies over Giants, Astros over Dodgers, and Rockies over Padres, and on the NBA side, Lakers over Utah. LET THE PLAYING BEGIN!!!!!
First game with the Diamondbacks we had Lilly on the mound. Other than giving up a homerun in the first, Lilly was right on target. Cubs win 3-1 Cubs 20-15.
Psssst…. My 5 team parlay took a dive when the Brewers beat the Cardinals in the ninth. This was a heart breaker and only one out from a big payoff. But, like they say, it aint over till the fat lady sings. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth the Cards were up 2-1, Hardy singles on a ground ball to center field. Kaplar singles on a fly ball to right field, Hardy to second base. Kendall (ex-cubbie) walks, putting Hardy on 3rd and Kaplar on 2nd. Bases are loaded, and I and a dozen other folks are yelling, screaming, begging, and pleading for the out. Well, Weeks singles to left field scoring Hardy and Kaplar to beat the Cards 3-2. As I was feeling the pain the Lakers compounded it by losing to Utah. It wasn’t long after that I hear this woman in the back of me yelling, I WIN, I WIN, YEA ME!!!! I thought, oh my God, that sounds like Sienna and I’ll be damn it was. She hit a two dollar double gold slot for 1600. I thought, only in Vegas.
Saturday May 10, game two with the Diamondbacks. Dempster was on the mound and held his own till the sixth inning when he gave up two runs. Diamondbacks were winning 2-1. In the bottom of the 7th Cubs spanked them for six runs to win 7-2. Cubs 21-15
Psssst….. I went with two bets today, a bet on a 4 team parlay, only to win one out of four. I also doubled up on the Lakers to beat Utah in game four. It was a great game, the Lakers tied it up, but, lost in O/T, everyone in the house was rooting for the Lakers.
Sunday May 11, game three with the Diamondbacks had me worried. The Cubs were the favorite in this game because the Big Z (Zambrano) was pitching. It was cold and rainy in Chicago so Lou didn’t play Zambrano or Soriano. (So much for being the favorite) anyhoo, this game was a nail biter. The Cubs came through with two runs in the 7th, and two runs in the 8th, to win 6-4 and take the sweep. Cubs 22-15
Psssst……. And a sweet sweep it was, it paid 1200. CUBBIE BLUE WILL RULE IN 08!!!!!!!
Monday May 12, I was feeling like a fat rat in a cheese factory. Padres were at Wrigley for a four game series. My bet was on the sweep, and single bets to win daily, on the Cubs/Padres series. Having no luck with the team parlays, I stayed away from those bets.
Game one, Since Big Z didn’t pitch yesterday, he was on the mound today. The Big Z was a little shaky, but, it didn’t matter. The Cubs bats were red hot. Producing a six run fifth inning, and a five run sixth inning, to win 12-3. Cubs 23-15
Tuesday May 13, game two, Soriano leads off the bottom of the first with a homerun. The Cubs get two more runs in the second. After the second inning they were stopped cold in their tracks. The Padres came up with four runs in the fourth to win 4-3. Cubs 23-16
Psssst…. There goes the sweep.
Wednesday May 14, game three. Lilly is on the mound and in good form. So were the Cubs bats, producing fourteen hits and eight runs to win 8-5. Cubs 24-16.
Thursday May 15, all good things must come to an end. We had a non stop, great, fun and exciting time. Then again how could one not, iffin, you go to Vegas with $5,000 playing money and come home with $7,600 and two $500.00 tickets for the Pennant and World Series games. We did a lot of playing, went to a show and a topnotch dinner every night, did a lot of dancing, and romancing. (BTW, the money I paid for the Barry Manilow show was not worth it) anyhoo, so not to make this too much into a trip report, back to the FUTURE WORLD CHAMPS CHICAGO CUBS.
Game four, I didn't get to see because I was in route to Chicago. It's a game I wanted to see because an ex-cubbie (Maddox) was on the mound for the Padres. We had Dempster on the mound. It was a scoreless game till the Cubs produced four runs in the fourth off of Maddox to shut the Padres out 4-0. Cubs 25-16
We get home early enough to un-pack and re-pack and get some sleep to get in the car @ 0400 and drive to Pittsburgh the next day. We check in at the Hilton in Pittsburgh, get un-packed, something to eat and head to PNC Park for game one. A new kid on the block *Gallager* (a kid I like, and one to watch in the future) was on the mound. The Cubs bat three runs in the first and three runs in the second to hand Gallagher his first win 7-4. Cubs 26-16
Game two, Our Ace the Big Z on the mound and what a thriller from Manilla it was. Cubs and Pirates up and down and tied 5-5 going into the ninth. Pirates scored two runs in the ninth, and the Cubs could only get one, to lose 7-6 Cubs 26-17
Game three, wasn't as close a game as the score looked 4-3. Cubs controlled the whole game. Cubs 27-17
pssst.... The Cubs are heading to Houston, and Sienna and I head home. A note about Pittsburgh. It is more of a football city. You can get great seats, at a good price, at beautiful PNC park. Also, if you check in at the Hilton or any hotel affiliated with them, you can get a room for $99.00 by telling them you are a United Steel Worker. No questions asked. (taxs, and all the other bs hotels charge you included) pssst...... It's time for a break. I've been on this post way tooooooo long.

Dayem, 0-2 in the playoffs and I come back to a sweep from the Rays.
For the last four months I was able to do something on my want to do list. (follow the Cubs around) They had a super season and put me in that proud to be a Cub fan spirit. Congrats to them and all their fans.
What the fuck is happening now is beyond me? The last time I'd seen four errors in a game was when my daughter was in a twelve and under softball league. (10 years ago)
With Harden and Lilly scheduled to pitch in LA, I am confident they will bring the game back to Wrigley. There has only been one team that lost both home games and came back with a sweep. (Yankees)
GO GO CUBS!!!!!!!

This is the problem when a team clinches "early" in the season -- they get rusty for the playoffs.

Well, looks like The Cubs' Den is now officially in hibernation for the winter. Dodgers sweep! Torre, Torre, Torre! All good things must come to an end. I'm still feeling a double pain. But, that's life. Normally, I go to Wrigley 3-4 times, an out of town 2-3 times a season. This season I went to 60. (48 out of town) Their team spirit and our great cities made a great summer to remember for me. Anyhooo, my RAH RAH's will be going to Dodger Blue. Looks like an LA Manny is what they needed to put the icing on the cake.
