I think, since we have not awarded the Golden Louie for 2007, we should take advance nominations for a special January 2008 award

I agree with Colleen way back on the front page - it just wasn't a funny joke. So to everyone, other than Lewis, it appeared mean spirited when they found out he was lying.
If he had said Hedo is now banning guys named Steve or Bill or rum at the nude pool everyone would have laughed and realized he was kidding.
But starting rumors that make people call their travel agent and the resort to complain goes way too far.
I think the first rule of the online Bill of Rights should be :
Thou shall not act like a complete tool.

If I may say we come out the for the 2010 New Years party, we go out and have nice top of line dinner, then head to time square for the party. Common BB, well get a few ,ore to go with us. Joe. Joe, those were pretty much OUR plans and intentions as well. THEN, I started researching and became aware that if we wanted to actually SEE anything, we'd need to be there by 3:00 or so, as by 5:00 supposedly, they would start shutting down streets, and have the police barricades in place, and you wouldn't be able to "get in" With this new knowledge, we decided to have a NICE LUNCH, right IN Times Square, so we would be close enough to "get in" before they blocked it off. SO, we decide on Bubba Gumps. We finish lunch approx 1:30, which we're thinking is the perfect timing. We can run back to the hotel, which is right around the corner on 46th St, grab the snacks we bought to take in with us, as once you get in, you are THERE, and IF you leave. for ANY reason, you are NOT allowed back in. LMAO, WELL, as we walk by the window to exit for our big exciting night in Times Square, the first pic shows what we saw! the second shows the countdown clock, NOTE how much more time till MIDNIGHT! Clock shows 10 hours 35 minutes and 08 seconds... Which makes THAT pic and the one just before it taken approx Oh! 1:30ish in the afternoon. By the time we got to the Hotel, (MAJOR DETOURING going on,) and we got to where WE would be allowed to stand, it was approaching 4:00 in the afternoon, and we ended up between the M&M store to one side, and the Hershey's store on the other. ALL the way down on 48th Street & Broadway! The first 2 pics were taken at the corner of 44th and Broadway! Needless to say, 4 NY City blocks away, the ball looked like an M&M: As disappointed as we were to be as far away, we stuck it out, UNTIL both boys had to use the restroom, OH! Did I mention there were NO toilette provisions, NOTHING! Unless you were smart enough or should I say dumb enough to stand for 11 plus hours in DEPENDS! OR, thinking as a Nurse, had the forethought to insert a damned catheter! After standing WAITING in the cold, 6 hours, at 10:00 I couldn't make the boys wait any longer. We allowed them to leave, and go back to the hotel room. Well, after 15 minutes of standing there, without them, not receiving any word back from either of the boys on their cell phones, Motherhood kicks in, and I tell Jef, CMon, we're going to go spend this night with our kids. So, WE leave and give up what we LATER discovered was a PRIMO spot. We get to the hotel, gather the boys, who were content laying in the beds watching on TV, and we say CMon, we're going to do what we came here to do. So, we ended up IN Central Park and the guys could see the ball, but I was too short. So, I get REALLY pissed now, and I am determined to go back to the room and watch on TV. LMAO Well, THAT wasn't in the cards either. The police would allow us to cross barricades when we showed them a Hotel Key in the direction we were trying to go. Each barricade had a security check point, open bags, get searched! They were allowing NO alcohol in the "Party Zone" which I was fine with, but CMon, do we LOOK like we wanna blow the town up, or did we look like we just wanted to get the HELL out of there! By the time midnight struck, we had made it to 46th Street and 7th Avenues. RIGHT in the heart of PARTY ZONE! There were SO MANY people, there was NO squeezing through to even get to security to make it across 7th and Broadway Streets to our Hotel. We were FINALLY able to hear what was being broad-casted, but we NEVER laid eyes on the ball. We NEVER saw the 2008 light up... Would I do it again, YUP, in a HEARTBEAT! BUT, I'd pay the $200.00 per person at the Bubba Gumps private party to stand inside with warm air, open bar, all you can eat buffet and RESTROOMS... I tried to do that this year, BUT, minimum age (21) our boys were 17 and 18... NOT taking them again! So, JOE, Good Luck with your 2010 plans, but ya might wanna make that a Top of the Line BREAKFAST! Muffy

Muffy, that was a great story and about what I expected -- especially given, as I said before, that as a lifelong New Yorker, I knew better than to ever try to pull a stunt like actually going into Times Square for New Year's Eve. THEN, I started researching and became aware that if we wanted to actually SEE anything, we'd need to be there by 3:00 or so, as by 5:00 supposedly, they would start shutting down streets, and have the police barricades in place, and you wouldn't be able to "get in" My office is just a couple of blocks from Times Square. When I returned to work after my Hedo trip, one of my co-workers told me that the VP of Engineering had instructed everyone in our department to go home at 3PM because they would begin closing down the streets at that time and it would be hard for people to commute home if they waited too much later (prior to that, our office was not officially scheduled to close early that day).

Thanks Muffy for the info. I am writing down the Budda Gumps for reservation. $200.00 a head is cheap if you are inside and near a bar.
Joe.

I loved Muffy's photos and commentary. I have to admit that I have never been to NYC and I think I will have to wait a little longer after reading that description of the crowds. I don't think this southern boy could handle that many people. I enjoy going to LA and Chicago but for some reason NYC seems to be out of my comfort zone still.

In the bars of Hell's Kitchen, there is an old saying, "Every bottle of beer comes with a pair of boxing gloves inside". So, long as neither one of us overdoes it (assuming we ever do meet), there might not be too much drama.

Muffy,
Thanks for the info and the pics - they REALLY bring it home - we probably tend to romanticize things like this too much. I'd only do it at Bubba Gumps or somewhere similar! I could never stand all of that time! OMG! Sounds like you guys made the best of it though. Glad you had a good trip!

Why, I don't know, but since everytime I see you post I'm reminded, I thought I would let you see how I got banned over there. I haven't even looked this up in years, but did tonight for fun and was pretty damned surprised, given how over the years I thought what I did was akin to killing someone. Lew, I think Doc was pulling your leg. He is as different as Night and Day between his on-line persona and his in-person style. They both SUCK, mind you, but they are very different!......Jake <sniff> I have such a deep seated feeling for this board, it transcends liberal and conservative, Democrat and Republican. There is so much that this board can do for America, so many ideas I have had for everyone to enjoy . . . it is HARD every day to bring this feeling to all, so many chances for it to go wrong. It is my WISH that we all get along . . . so many years that I have argued for ch-ch-change, ch-ch-change that will bring us all together. ch-ch-change that will unite us all as we endeavor to focus our energy to embrace humanity in love, cherishing all that is human and that which allows us to embrace the creatures that make up this World! This is my hope! <sniff> Jake, I am offended that you have insulted me! I seek nothing but the universal love of all mankind! <sniff> Do you suppose that I could have won the NH primary with that post? ;D ;D
