With 2011 in the books it time to start the 2012 thread.
Giants made a a trade today. They shipped off Jonathan Sanchez to KC for Melky Cabrer. I like Melky when he played for the Yanks in 2009 and he had a great 2011. I am glad Snachez is gone, he was head case.
In earlier news last week the Yanks resigned CC to a new contract. Big bucks.
So where is Albert and Pince going to end up? I say Albert stays in St. Louis and Prince could end up in Chicago with the Cubs.
Another year coming up so what do you see happening?

I would like to hope that Jose Reyes gives the Mets a hometown discount and stays in NYC for maybe a bit less money, but I don't think so. Rumors are heating up that David Wright could get traded. I'd hate to see that, especially now that the Mets have moved the fences in at CitiField.

Maybe they can resign Beltran. I don't think the Giants will.

Tigers are trimming age off the roster, Guillen and Ordonez are going. No big loss there. They can be put to use as patches in club's that needs them, but just occupy a roster spot on any team that's looking to contend. Pitcher Brad Penny appears to be out.
Detroit's biggest needs, a good left handed starter, and a reasonably good catcher to back up Avila.

When you say "6", I assume you are using shorthand for the year "2106"

Straight-up for Jason Bay; I'm willing to throw in some pine tar rags. Used, of course.

If I was the SF GM I would be tempted to take that trade. Without the used pine tar rags.

Albert is heading to the Marlins for meeting Saturday. Also Jose Reyes has been talking to them. New Stadium, new manager, a couple of new players. The Marlins could become real dangerous in 2012.

The Washington Nationals' catcher was kidnapped in Venezuela while playing winter ball. The ransom note is asking for a million dollars and a player to be named later.

I always heard that Winter Baseball could be dangerous to a person's career. The Washington Nationals' catcher was kidnapped in Venezuela while playing winter ball. The ransom note is asking for a million dollars and a player to be named later.

This is 2013 related but better here than in the 2011 thread.
The Astros have been sold and will move to the AL West in 2013. That will give both leagues 15 teams in 3-5 team divisions. That makes interleague play a season long thing.
They will also add two more teams to the playoffs, one in each league. 4 and 5 will play a one game playoff before the Divisional Series starts.
Sounds like the stupid "play-in" game for NCAA basketball.
All in all, I cant get behind any of these ch-ch-changes. The interleague games are becoming a distraction, the 14-16 arrangement worked well, and this past year, a 4-5 game would have trashed all of the drama from the St Louis and Tampa Bay runs.
The more they ch-ch-change it, the more they fuck it up. At least they didnt decide to expand to 32 teams.

Smart move on both parts. Maybe the idiots in the NBA should take a long hard look. I think MLB learned their lession after the 1993 strike. Labor Deal

No question that MLB learned a lesson with that strike, one that they did not want to repeat.
I am not sure that NBA players/owners are at that point yet, getting there, but not yet.

Bobby V to manage the Red Sox. Will that work. The Red Sox are a low profile team, do they want a manager that likes nothing better than to hear himself talk? 2012 grows more interesting by the second.

I was going to post about the Angels deal, but got sidetracked. I dont think they have the division tied up yet, but they took a big step in that direction, if they can deal with the egos

Reyes to the Marlins -- that one hurts.
Joe, if Pagan can bounce back from a bad year, you should like him.
