It was close last night Gordon. If that last hit would have cleared Crawford you guys would have won it.

Well, the Giants did manage to do some good for Detroit... they pushed the team into firing the pitching coach... 'bout time, the guys (Rick Knapp) was useless and the pitching staff bleeding runs all over the place.

Jeter is two hits away from 3,000 hits, and when he does he will join a very elite group (and may be the last person to ever do it given modern baseball)... there have only been 5 AL players to get 3,000 hits while playing for just one major league team for their entire career. They are... Yaz(3419)-Boston, Ripken(3184)-Balt, Brett(3154)-KC, Yount(3142)-Milw, Kaline(3007)-Detroit

When he reaches 3,000 hits, he will attain another statistical milestone: he will finally have more hits than women he's slept with.

Moving target there, as long as it's taken him to reach 3000, his hits are falling behind his hit ons.

Yeah, but he can still hit on 5 in one day apparently. Congrats to Jeter.

First big trade of the season. The Mets send K-Rod to the Brewers for cash.
So will the Mets unload Reyes and Beltran? We shall see in the next few weeks.

That pretty mush ends the season for the Mets. Mets will get two players to be named later, but I am reading that the Brewers are getting the $$ from the Mets to help pay for K-Rods contract. Im not an accountant, but it seems like a really bad deal for the Mets considering the only way the trade makes sense is if Fielder is one of the two.. but he is free agent after this season.

That pretty mush ends the season for the Mets. They were mathematically eliminated before Mother's Day.

That pretty mush ends the season for the Mets. They were mathematically eliminated before Mother's Day. April 1st was a good date for elimination.

For some of us, we're eliminated on April 15th (or the 18th, this year).
(FWIW, I don't happen to think that mush is very pretty at all)

I've had a sinking feeling for several days but after last night you can put a cork in the Rays. They are finished. Bases loaded with no outs in the top of the 10th and they cannot push a run through. And it only takes KC 2 pitches to score in the bottom.
The only redeeming factor is that Jennings made his major league debut last and and he is beyond fast. I think this makes BJ Upton a goner before the trade deadline.
And I for one am glad. I don't think I have ever seen more clueless at bats by a single major league player. Here's hoping another organization can get him to play to his projected skill level.

Wheeler looks like he could work out pretty well for the Mets -- *if* he stays healthy and *if* they hold on to him.

The winner in the July trade was the Phillies. They got Hunter Pence. They giants should of went after him instead of Beltran. So far he has done jack shit and has a sprained wrist.

We drove over to watch the Rays-Royals game last night. The time of the game was 1:53. It was the fastest game I have ever attended in my life. I don't think I have every watched anything under 2:20 before.
It actually took us longer that that to drive over to the game.

I remember when that game time would have been close to normal. I remember watcing a 90 minute game on TV when I was young
BTW- Back on September 28, 1919 the New York Giants took on the Philadelphia Phillies in Philadelphia, defeating them 6 - 1 quite quickly. While the score is not that amazing, the time it took to play the full nine innings was, a mere 51 minutes, the fastest, or shortest baseball game in the history of Major League Baseball. The fastest doubleheader was played on September 26, 1926 between the New York Yankees and the St. Louis Browns, lasting only 2 hours and 7 minutes.

With hitting as poor as it league wide this year, I am surprised more games aren't less than 2 hours.

Mostly likely this post will jinx his ass but the Atlanta Braves, second baseman, Dan Uggla has a 32 game hitting streak going. It has been very impressive, with 12 home runs in those 32 games. Lets see how much closer he can get to Joe D.
