That's what I was thinking, too. I hope they call this game soon -- it's raining hard in the Bronx now. It's been an hour and hasn't let up and it's supposed to rain harder later. *And* I just saw some lightning out of my window just now. Things ain't looking good ...

This does fuck up the pitching for that series.
Rays are still hot. Took it to the Rangers 9-0, They could be the team to beat right now.

If Verlander had been able to pitch the entire first game, it would've been a very different story.

Fister must have been thrown off by the 'reliever' label, that was his worst pitching in a long time... of course he only set up that grand slam and didnt deliver the 'shot in the arm' pitch.

I repeat, the rain fucked up the pitching in that series.

My EVO insists on correcting the spelling of "the" to "tje". It also turns "is" to "OS". Sorry about that, carry on.

I certainly dont want to see my team go back there in this series Besides if they do, I am not sure how well players like Valverde and Cabrera are at water polo, they are just too massive for those waterlogged grounds.
Edited: I am really surprised that the Brewers are 2 up on Arizona. But if it comes to it, I would REALLY love to see the Brewers beat the Phillies.

I find this crap just funny!! The Rays did in the fucking Red Sox, who spent about $120 Million MORE per year in salary than we did. No wonder that idiot manager is history. We beat the Yankees more than they beat us, and THEY spent over $200 MILLION in salaries!! Oh . . . did I mention the Rays salary was $41 million? Damn Yankees!! Buying their way to victory! Ain't that special??

That is an interesting table Bob, because it also has both the median and std dev for those average figures.
Compared to the average the MEDIAN is almost always the better stat, though seldom used, and looking at the two there is important information to be gleened.
Even though the Yankees have by far a bigger payroll, and average salaries, the median of their payroll is back near the middle of the pack (8th overall). That means that they pay a few stars big $$$ but most of the players are paid well, but not spectacularly. That is reinforced by the VERY high standard deviation value (over $8 million).
TB OTOH has a small payroll, and the average is only a bit higher than the median. Meaning TB relies much less on the high paid stars, and much more on low paid work horses... Moneyball in action.
$$$ doesnt buy championships. (Fortunately that table is sortable, kudos to the person who put that together) Sort on the median pay, and look who is 2nd on the list on the high side... MINNESOTA. Median payroll is $3 million per player and look where they finished. They have a very high payroll for their average player but very few "stars" with super high payrolls. In other words they went for an elite team with few standouts, and got screwed big time.
Houston Astros another interesting team on that table.. $70 million overall, but a very low $467K for the median pay. They went for a few high paid players surrounded by minimum salary players.. that didnt work out well at all.
No doubt TB (along with Arizona and Milwaukee) get the prize for the best miles/gallon this year. They did their homework in signing players and it shows... the downside, will they hold the winning team together when contracts come up for negotiations?

The Tigers have big problems going back to NY. Even if the Tiger win they have to catch a plane for Texas that night. Texas will have had 3 to 5 day rest. Fatigue could be their worst enemy.

Damn you Granderson, why cant you suck for just one game.
Grandy was awesome in CF, and it would have been an entirely different game if he missed those catches (especially the first inning). Take those two catches out of the game, and Jackson just missing Jeter's double into CF and Detroit just might have won the game.
As it stands, I dont give the Tigers much of a chance right now, especially with the bullpen playing AAA ball right now, and the batters cant seem to put more than 2 runs together in an inning.

Shoulda, coulda, woulda don't win ball games. Tiger chance are low come Thrusday night.
D'backs snake bit the Brewers last night. They could make that series interesting also.

If the game was to be played in Detriot I would say they had a better than 70% chance of winning. Being in The Bronx I give them a less than 20% chance.

Given the pressure of the game and Nova's playoff experience (?), they might have a better than 20%.
