Look out Gordon the could be the team to beat next year. Joe, with the Lions notching their fourth straight win yesterday, and that type of thinking, you could fall into the trap every long time Lion's fan has fallen into... hope for the future. Detroit ends the season with the longest winning streak in the NFC and unless Baltimore or New England wins the Superbowl, they will have the longest in the NFL to start the season. Thats enough to get anyone jumping about next season, except we Lion's fans.. we know better, after 50 years of teams rising to the level of mediocrity then crashing, believe me, weve been through this before, and we know better.

I think the Rams might get it at 8-8 or 7-9. Personally I don't think a sub-500 teams belongs in the playoffs. The Seahawks are in it at 7-9 (just one game better than the Lions!), the NY Giants and Tampa Bay are out of it at 10-6. If Seattle drops out in the first round I think most will regard it as a fluke. IF Seattle goes deep into the playoffs, a lot of eyebrows will probably be raised about the entire playoff system. Do they deserve to be there, yes and no, they met the qualifications by winning their division, but 7-9? Thats not what the commissioners office ever envisioned. At the very least, it will add a great twist to the ESPN talking heads shows as long as they keep playing.

I don't agree with a 7-9 team in the playoffs division winner or not. I think they will fall in the first round.

I don't agree with a 7-9 team in the playoffs division winner or not. I think they will fall in the first round. This game makes me nervous. My Saints have to not only travel west but they have a short week to travel with the early Saturday game. On paper it looks like a walk over but the Seahawks scare me having that west coast home game on Saturday. I would be a little happier if we played on Sunday.

I don't agree with a 7-9 team in the playoffs division winner or not. I think they will fall in the first round. The automatic berth the only real reason for the current NFL league structure (or any other North American professional sports circuit). The only way to avoid the current situation would be to require a minimum number of wins, or do like they do in the various European Soccer leagues, just have one big set of standings for each conference, and take the top 6 teams (for the NFL), or dissolve the conferences altogether and take the top 12 teams. Of course Americans dont like their teams finishing in 14th place regardless of the fact that that is really where their 4th place team is in the bigger picture of the NFC or AFC.

They should take as you mentioned the top six teams from each conference with the best win and lose record, or at least play .500 ball to make the playoffs. If you don't play .500 division winner or not you don't go. The next team with the best win and lose records goes in your place.

If they do, they should win The Underachiever Of The Year Award.

Maybe they could expand the playoffs to, oh, say, the top 32 teams.

To make it really interesting, have the KKK officiate and allow them to enforce the old black males touching white females laws with "traditional" penalties.

Yeah, but there was some missed tackling on that play. Give the NO D an assist on that one.

I wonder how much Nola is going to drink tonight after watching that game. A lot of errors by NO all the way around.

I wonder how much Nola is going to drink tonight after watching that game. Probably about the same as if they had won, but for a different reason.

I wonder how much Nola is going to drink tonight after watching that game. A lot of errors by NO all the way around. Did not drink a drop. As I said earlier in the week you could really see this one coming. And then the injuries piled up. But I give the Seahawks credit. They played well and did not fold down the stretch. I actually bailed on the game with 3 minutes left in the third to go to the movies. Strange but I am OK with the loss. I think I still have warm fuzzies remaining from the Super Bowl win last year.

oops, I forgot that for most of the last couple decades, being a Saints fan was not too different from being a Lions fan. Never set your sights too high and you wont be disappointed. Enjoy the remaining glow from last year.

I said that about San Francisco never winning a World Series in my lifetime and look what happened.
Funny things happen in football. We have a 7-9 team going into week two of the playoffs. The visiting team won 3 of 4 games this weekend. The Jets may just pull it off.
