I have it from a very trustworthy source that the house belonging to Muffy and Bif has been involved in an explosion. EXPLOSIONBifand Muffy were not home, so they themselves are fine Zilla (who has Muffy and Bif in my thoughts)

Wow. Are you sure it's their place? Are they fine? What caused the explosion? Yes. Current thought is it was a gas leak. I would post other news reports, but that has their real names and address, and I am uncomfortable giving acquaintances that information. Zilla (sorry I am being less documenty than usual)

The devastation in the pictures is horrific. I'm so thankful that neither they nor the kids were home at the time.
Our thoughts and strength are focused on them right now. I don't want to bother her right now, so if anyone DOES speak to her, please give them my love!

Truly incredible and very fortunate that no one was seriously injured. I have worked insurance claims on similar type losses. You seldom see such a tight explosion pattern for a gas leak. It is normally 3 to 4 houses totally destroyed with other residual damage.
I would be totally shell shocked to come back and have to face that as the homeowner. I sure hope they have a strong support group around them.

I'm also glad they're OK (physically). This could've been cross-posted in the Valentine's Day Horror Stories thread.

They are two great, generous folks. I had the pleasure of hanging out with them a few months ago at Fantasy Fest. Muffy's a real sweetheart and Bif's a fun person to chat with.

When do they typically go to Hedo? I know Jeff and Laura are common names, but I may have met them.

Anyone have an address that exists (like work?) where a care package could be sent? I just emailed Bif, but I don't know if he'll be picking up his email anytime soon.
They are such nice folks...what a tragic accident. I don't blame Muffy for being numb. What a thing to try to wrap your brain around.

You can get a new house. No one was hurt. That is what is important. Still a tough deal. So sorry to hear it.

I just spoke to Laura and it appears they do have a good support group. They are at a fundraiser their friends have put together for them. She is stunned at the out pouring of support. She said the dog was in the back yard and is fine, but their cat unfortunately was in the house at the time. I am so glad everyone was safe. Angels were working in their favor today. This is going to be so emotionally draining for them. Here's a couple of more links to the local news: www.bnd.com/372/story/654353.html suburbanjournals.stltoday.com/articles/2009/02/13/madison/special_feature/doc4995b08fd206She's gonna have to do some major shoe shopping now! Sending lots of white light to you, girlfriend!

Good lord how AWFUL!!
I'm so glad neither one was hurt and neither was any of their family (I am sorry about the cat though). I'm also glad to hear they have people who are pitching in there to help them.
If anyone hears how we can help out - let me know!
Hugs to you Bif and Muffy - whenever you read this.

I met Laura at Hedo III before she met Jef and I couldn't have been happier for her when they got together. When I decided to visit NYC in March 2007 for one of Hazel's Hedo parties, before I had even finished telling her of my plans Laura was checking air fares so that she and Jef could join me there. Once in NYC they knew how fragile I still was only a couple of months after my ex wife had left me after struggling to deal with months of her out of control alcoholism, and made sure they stuck to me like glue throughout the week to ensure I had the best time possible. I'm proud to call them friends.
Life has dealt Laura some cruel blows over the years but she's a fighter and a survivor, and Jef is her rock, so I know that together they will get through this appalling event that has befallen them.
When you read this Jef and Laura remember that although this has been a shared tragedy, the aftermath, over the coming weeks and months, of dealing with an ordeal like this can put a terrible strain on even the strongest relationships, so at times to come when it all seems like it's getting too much for you remember to turn to each other, not against each other, and you will get through this.
And finally, you were due to head down to Jamaica next week, and to catch up with us for a day or two at Braco the following week. Right now that is probably the last thing on your minds, and I am very sad that fate has robbed me of a few hours of your company. But knowing you Laura as the survivor you are it wouldn't surprise me if you somehow manage to make the trip after all.

Simon, well said. I could not agree more with your post. Laura and Jeff give from their hearts. Laura is not only a "survivor", and Jef is without a doubt her rock, she has the incredible ability to maintain a positive perspective, and sense of humor when faced with these continued life tests. One could easily become bitter at what life has dealt her, yet she and Jef have the ability to rise above and have a prospective outlook when faced with such negativity. I admire them both.

I cannot get this out of my head - so much so that I dreamed about them last night. I'm as usual, torn between the "am I intruding" if I call them and wanting to let them know I'm thinking of them.
Simon, a very profound post and well thought out - very true - this is going to be a test - after she just had the hip thing at the end of the WWW trip - she realized then (again) what an awesome man she had in Jef so I'm sure they are pulling together through this.

To all of our Friends. Jef and I along with our dog Jaeger (quit laughing) are physically OK, emotionally, we are a wreck. We went back to the pile of toothpicks this morning, and I was approached by a running fireman, who handed me 2 photo albums of my Late Daughter and Granddaughters. I naturally lost it emotionally. Those were among many things I had of the girls that are not replaceable. Hearing (reading) the many kind words got me to tears before I got to the end of the page. For about 3-4 hours yesterday morning, I fell quite far from who I am inside. As everyone would say what a blessing it was that we were alive, I abruptly would respond, "Well, maybe for you, but for me it would have been easier to be in the bed, sleeping, and I never would have known anything, and I sure as hell wouldn't be facing what I am now" That shameful outlook dissipated as the reality sunk in. By afternoon, I was saying, the absolute worst case scenario at this point is Jef and I have each other, 5 wonderful sons, and a dog who adores us. We will literally pick up the pieces and go forward. Today I heard myself saying to the neighbor (a police officer) who was knocked out of his shower, that as horrific as the devastation is, there is SO MUCH to be thankful for. SO MANY Miracles can be found in this devastation when one just opens their eyes, and grasps the reality of what it IS as opposed to what it COULD HAVE BEEN. Timing is everything, and a mere 15 minutes later, and the school busses would have been carrying children and driving right in front of the house. The entire situation is taking its toll on Jef. This is the first time life has dealt him such a blow since his first divorce some 17 years ago. I've had so many, I sincerely believe my heart and mind are calloused from the tragedies. I find myself being the strong one for him throughout this mess. I told him last night as he was feeling inferior for not being able to take care of me that yes, this is horrible, BUT, I reminded him that this is not the worst thing that has ever happened to me, and I have no doubts I will survive, lessons will be learned, we will grow as a unit, and we will ultimately be OK. I did make a statement that I sincerely pray he listened to. When-ever we get to rebuild and where-ever we get to rebuild, there will NEVER be a gas line of any type running to our home. I will do my best to keep everyone informed, and remind everyone that just because it is in or on the news, does not make it true. I was going to give a press conference last night, due to the speculation that we had a meth lab in the basement, among many other false and untrue statements being given, but Jef and I have decided NOT to empower the idiots of this world saying shit like that to upset us and we are not going to dignify their stupidity with a response. Sorry for the lengthy verbiage. First time on a computer and I think I got carried away with the connection to the world again! HUGS TO EVERYONE... A side note to Simon, Jef and I have until Tuesday to decided if we will go on the trip or not. Here's the deciding factor... IF we can get our PASSPORTS replaced in time with no documentation other than our Drivers license. If it is meant for us to go, we will walk out of the Federal building in Chicago with them in hand I suppose.

What a relief to hear from you Muffy! I know that you two will make it through this and come out the other side the stronger for it. (the look on Jef's face in one of the pics told it all to me - he looked exactly as he was feeling no doubt.) Please pay no attention to the idiots of this world - you don't even need to dignify them with a reply my dear.
Hang in there - we're all here for you - just let us know if there's anything we can do.
BIG Hugs to you both!!
