This Thursday afternoon I'm headed for Texas. About three weeks ago my mother asked if she could take the girls away for a week, so I took the opportunity to make some last minute arrangements to head over to the US and visit a good Hedo friend of mine in Dallas who I haven't seen for nearly three years. I'll also be meeting up with Tex during my trip, and hopefully Dan too, as well as taking in the North Texas State Fair and Rodeo, and of course seeing if I can get us thrown out of a few bars.

A few years ago we went here www.billybobstexas.com/ and had a good ol' boot scootin' time. If you're nearby it might be worth stopping in. Have fun on your get away.

Gary, we visited Billy Bob's on a trip a couple of years ago. We had a great night there. Have you ever been there?

Yes we saw this guy, www.juniorbrown.com/ we went to Texas just to see him. He's plays a unique instrument and delivers Texas honky tonk just the way this New Yorker likes it! Loud with lots of cold beer, by the bucket! LOL His lyrics are very amusing with "double entendres" for many different scenarios. I saw him in NYC also.

Simon, your timing is good. We are forecast to hit 100 degrees Saturday for the first time this year (a little late the season but anything for our guests). See you soon.

I'm in - just let me know the time and place. Apologize for the absence - took off tonight for some much needed sleep or wouldn't have seen this.
Oh - as you may well know - we don't get thrown out of bars here.
We are dragged out. Usually by a horse. Kicking and fighting.
And the spurs on the ladies boots? They're just for show.
Really.
Those scars on my back - they're just paper cuts.

If you are coming from Sherman south on North Central Expressway, take the Knox-Henderson exit, right on Knox, then left on Travis, half block on the left. We will let you know particulars later. See you soon.

Thanks Tex. Unfortunately I won't be on BA as I booked so late they had no seats available, so I'm going to have to suffer on Continental for a ch-ch-change. Gatwick to Houston, then a connection to DFW. See you soon.

There was once a commotion at the local airport (Longview, TX) and I knew one of the agents for American (American Eagle is the only service) and I asked what was up.
This was before 9/11 and curb check in was the norm. They had a rack of pre-printed tags for major airports and filled in the 3 letter code for the others. They was no procedure to match tickets and luggage or it was lax. An old man from Kilgore had been visiting his daughter in Dallas and she dropped him off at the airport. He saw a tag on the rack that said LGW and assumed that that was Longview and picked out the tag and handed it to the guy at check in, who thought that the old man was a seasoned traveler and knew what he was doing. (the correct code was GGG, which was assigned when Longview was named Gregg County Airport). When the old man deplaned in Longview, his bag never came out and he started raising hell. Longview only has two gates (and one of them needs a little oil because they don't use it) and the American attendent was truly puzzled because she couldn't figure out where the hell the bag could have been lost between here and Dallas (140 or so miles with no stops). She was explaining to him that surely it would be on the next flight when he volunteered that he knew it had the right tag because he had picked it out himself..... She got on the horn to Dallas right away but too late. The old man's bag was somewhere over Louisiana winging its way to London Gatwick (LGW). I understand he got his bag back in a couple of days.

Great story Tex. Reminded me of a joke back in the 1970's mocking British Airway's marketing slogan for Concorde :
"Breakfast in London, Lunch in New York"
to which was added "Baggage in Borneo"
Simon (who is now at a hotel at LGW ready for my flight tomorrow morning)

See you soon. Know right where the place is Tex. I live in Plano now - but still same direction. I'm just off Legacy and 75 if you're familiar with the area. I haven't been on of late as I am on the evening/night shift for the forseeable future - and we do not have Internet access from the workstations at work. Isolated banking network on 95% of the computers there. By the time I get home I'm too tired to surf much - preferring to sleep until around 3pm. Have a safe journey Simon! Dan

Dan,
Great to "see" you around - I started a new job too and have been off the boards more than on - hope things are going well for you though and you have a great time with Simon and Tex, et al.

Hope so too. Seems like it's been months since I've been around (or seen the sun for that matter!)
Now if only December would get here.
Soon come!

Well Simon outdid himself. I'm sure he will be on to tell his side of the story but here's mine:
I will skip right past dinner and a few drinks at an outdoor bar and get to the good part. We took a rather drunk Simon to "Texas Tits", a totally nude place in a seedy part of town which is known as "Home of the D-Cups".
Simon was in love as soon as "Midnight" appeared on stage 3, then he followed her every move as she proceeded to stage 2 then stage 1. After her performance, Simon was all over her for a "private dance". How this works is you pay ten dollars a song and go back in a booth where only your feet are visible. Simon was running a little low on US currency and Midnight wouldn't accept Pound Sterling, so after four songs, Simon came out and ran over to us franticly looking for ten dollar bills. By the time he rounded up the money, the door to Midnight's booth was closed again. He didn't realized that Midnight's regular, a linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys, had showed up and was in the booth.
Simon started rattling the door, then stuck his head under the door and proceeded to curse the linebacker and Midnight. The big bastard linebacker was not amused. We were lucky that the owner of the establishment intervened and merely sent us packing.
It was good to see you Simon and we wish you a safe trip home.

Well.. he didnt get kicked out of the state of Texas.. but it sounds like he opted for the next best thing... having the Dallas Cowboy football team 'escort' him out... shame it didnt work ;D
Edited: Did he perchance ask for an autograph from the linebacker while he was attempting a 'breaking and entering' on the booth?

I unfortunately (fortunately???) missed the shenanigans - being stuck at the Fed Reserve til 3am. Seems I have a better chance of meeting you folks in Jamaica than my own backyard. Safe trip home Simon. And Tex - I got your calls 0 thanks. I just couldn't return them in time to make a difference. One day. Dan (Going back to bed until the sun goes down. I feel this burning sensation when it touches my flash lately. )

He should have thanked you for persuading me not to take him up on his offer to pitch NFL muscle against British cunning and guile. Simon
