Awesome episode! I like how Don was all bent out of shape about Pete and Bert and Joan doing an IPO without telling him.... and then what does HE go and do? And what do you think they'll call the new agency? And better question: what was he Chevy they were talking about? The Corvette was already out. The Camaro maybe? And Roger: "Get me a tall glass of water with an onion in it." (or did he say olive?) And then later: "Okay, then I only have good news...." All around great stuff. This was Mothers Day 1968. The Corvette and Camaro were already out. And the Malibu was down the road. They landed the Vega whick quickly fizzles out, In real life Chevrolet actually did force two rival agencies to merge to capture a piece of their account at one time. From what I read the merger lasted a year. I have always thought the one thing lacking was a character that was strong enought to stand up to Don and allow Don to push back and play off him. He just steam rollls people like Pete. I think bringing Ted into the agency may make for some interesting dynamics

I don't remember much hoopla about the Vega when it came out. Then again, I was ten years old and not paying that much attention.
As for a strong character who stands up to Don, I think Joan fits that bill. She certainly did in this episode. Ted strikes me as way too much of a pussy to stand up to Don. Maybe Harry Hamlin will give him a run for his money?

The Monte Carlo was introduced for model year 1970 (on sale in 1969). The ad campaigns had to have some lead time, so that could be the model - or it could be just fiction.

One thing MM prides themselves on is weaving current events into their storylines. In the earlier episode the car was referred to as prototype XP-887. This was the 1971 Car of the Year Vega, It was certainly not the answer to the Mustang as Don suggested!

Another great episode! I've never seen Don look as scared as he did in that plane! Also, loved his brief excursion into being a dominatrix.

Another great episode! I've never seen Don look as scared as he did in that plane! Also, loved his brief excursion into being a dominatrix. I can actually do without Don and all the bedroom scenes. But I love what is going on at CSDP. I could watch a full hour of just that. I am wondering if Sunday was the beginning of the end for Bert Copper. Looks like they are setting the stage for senility taking hold in old Bert

Totally drugged-out episode! Loved it. Dr. Feel-good brings his special brand of pharmaceuticals to SCDPCGC or whatever the fuck they are calling the agency these days. I especially liked the William Tell contest with the X-acto knives!

Looks like SCDPCGC is finally iterating to a newer, more user-friendly name. High time!

Looks like SCDPCGC is finally iterating to a newer, more user-friendly name. High time! Finally got back and had a chance to see the episode. I was betting on Sterling & Draper. I am enjoying the story lines better in the second half of this season. I did not catch it but I read a couple of comments that Megan was made to look like Sharon Tate in the CA scenes. It is interesting watching the characters and their take on the 69 convention. I remember vividly being glued to our TV and watching every minute of it.

I am thinking we have major spin off potential here. A series set in the 70's starring Sally. We can call it Everything You Need to Know About Sex by Observing Roger and Don.

OH MY FUCKING GOD!!!
Don Draper finally gets busted, and by whom? I laughed my ass off for like five minutes.
On the other hand.... If you don't love your wife enough to be faithful to her, WHY would you be upset at getting caught cheating on her? The worst she could do is leave you. Unless you were sucking off her income, of course, but that clearly is not the case in this situation.

I think his concern is more over a lack of control than anything. He has the power if he controls the process. And Don is all about both

How does Pete think he is going to survive in California when he can barely drive a car?

How does Pete think he is going to survive in California when he can barely drive a car? Maybe he hires Manolo to be his driver. He is available!
