My nomination for best line of the night: "What's a Regina?" Just watched the season finale. I didn't understand that line at all. What am I missing? Here are some of my observations about the finale. I'm not going to "spoiler" them; it's been a week, and if you don't want it spoiled, don't read it...... Disclaimer at the start of the episode: "This program contains brief nudity" - I was hoping for something better than Roger's naked ass! Don's toothache - was that some sort of symbolism? Don's dead brother showing up three times: I assume that was guilt over Lane's suicide? Joan - I didn't think she could get any hotter - until I saw her in GLASSES!! Great Roger line: "Stop being demure; you're already on the bed!" You Only Live Twice - one of my favorite James Bond themes. From the very first note, I was into it. "Are you alone?" - Chick at the bar at the very end. Implying that Don's fidelity to Megan is about to come to an end?

My nomination for best line of the night: "What's a Regina?" Just watched the season finale. I didn't understand that line at all. What am I missing? She was speaking in French on the phone and she pronounced the name so it sounded (to him, presumably) like "Vagina".
Here are some of my observations about the finale. I'm not going to "spoiler" them; it's been a week, and if you don't want it spoiled, don't read it......
Disclaimer at the start of the episode: "This program contains brief nudity" - I was hoping for something better than Roger's naked ass! My thoughts exactly! More proof that this show needs to be on HBO! Don's toothache - was that some sort of symbolism?
Don's dead brother showing up three times: I assume that was guilt over Lane's suicide? You did see the ligature marks, no? Joan - I didn't think she could get any hotter - until I saw her in GLASSES!!
Great Roger line: "Stop being demure; you're already on the bed!"
You Only Live Twice - one of my favorite James Bond themes. From the very first note, I was into it.
"Are you alone?" - Chick at the bar at the very end. Implying that Don's fidelity to Megan is about to come to an end?

I finally watched the 2 hour episode and I really have some misgivings. I understand the darker tone and can accept that even though I don't enjoy it.
However I feel a disconnect and I cannot quite put my finger on it. It is like there has been a reboot. I think there has been too much of a time jump. I recognize characters but then again some familiar characters seem out of place to me. For example the ad agency is familiar yet totally different. At this point I am just a little put off by the direction and I hope it ch-ch-changes.

OK. So what do you call it when you type in a word and the program automatically switches ("ch-ch-changes") it to a variation?

It's auto-correct on steroids!
I finally got around to watching it last night, and I loved it! I'm not sure I agree that it has a "darker tone." They've always had a dark tone. Lots of brilliant touches in this episode:
- Peggy has become the Don of her new agency. When she said, "I asked you for three ideas. You gave me one idea three ways," it was totally something Don would have said.
- Having Roger in analysis is a brilliant idea. Now he can spew his random bizarre observations at will, instead of only when they make sense. I particularly liked (not from analysis) "Did Ernest Borgnine chase you down an alley with a switchblade?"
- The previous episode ended with a question: Is Don going back to his cheating ways? And it wasn't until the very last scene of this one that we got the answer.
- Not nearly enough screen time for Joan and the other office dudes, but I can wait. You can't shoehorn everyone into a single episode, even a double length one.
- Loved the Hawaii scenes, but I kept wishing everyone would have been nude. They must have been staying on the prude side of the island.

He is at his best when he is interacting with clients and coworkers. He is witty and acerbic. I want to see him doing verbal battle with others not spewing his thoughts on the couch. Was there ever any question that Don was going to revert back to form? Is the Pope from Argentinian? I agree that we need more of the agency. There are many new faces. And I think we are going to have to be reintroduced to Stan and Ginsberg. They don't seem like the same characters to me. It is hard to believe that we have only advanced from 1966 to 1967.

Episode 2 of the season was also great. It was a total Don vs. Pete episode. They were basically doing the exact same things, but for Don it works, and for Pete, it FAILS, epically. Also loved the way Don handled the Heinz dildo.

But Don is certainly taking "hypocrite" to the next level!

Did you recognize the husband of the couple that was hitting on them? That was Ted McGinley, best known (to me, anyway) as the whacky neighbor on "Married With Children." Boy did he get old and fat!

Awesome episode!
I like how Don was all bent out of shape about Pete and Bert and Joan doing an IPO without telling him.... and then what does HE go and do? And what do you think they'll call the new agency? And better question: what was he Chevy they were talking about? The Corvette was already out. The Camaro maybe?
And Roger: "Get me a tall glass of water with an onion in it." (or did he say olive?) And then later: "Okay, then I only have good news...."
All around great stuff.
