RH, I'm glad our advice in the preceeding posts has helped you with the starling situation.

Starling stew with olives" Fry some chopped turnips and carrots. Add a little stock and a glass of red wine. Place some starlings or other small birds in the pan. Add a thin purée of boiled potatoes mashed with beaten eggs, dry mustard, and some stock and a little beer. Cover with stock and cook for about 30 minutes, adding some ripe olives near the end." And don't forget a little chutney or mango salsa.

This thread is truly a TNMC classic.
Beeb, I hope you have bookmarked it for our 10 birthday celebrations in 2015... if we make it that far.

Good point Anita, were diplomatic solutions carried out to their ultimate conclusion?

It was believed, though there is no evidence to support the belief, that the Starlings were concealing weapons of mass destruction. Therefore RH invading the garage and slaughtering them was lawful, with or without a UN mandate.

Not to mention believed al-Qaeda AND Taliban links.
They had been placed on and flagrantly ignored and violated the Homeland Security "No Fly" list.

Maybe not such a good idea after all... Bird Poisoning of Federally Protected Birds OCI & U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Investigate Poisoning of BirdsOCI’s Kansas City Field Office initiated this case based on information received from the U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife Service. The information referred to a massive bird poisoning incident in Seligman, Missouri It appears starlings are not protected, but songbirds, migratory birds, and predators are. Hopefully they're dropping dead right there in the garage where you can retrieve the carcasses before anything else eats them, and you're somehow keeping doves away from the bait.

I understand the frustration with pesky animals. We have so much whitetail deer roaming the area that it's nearly impossible to grow anything.

Am I the only one that has a problem with the mass murder of all those birds? I have filled two big yard waste bags with dead birds so far... As far as killing "desirable" birds I was VERY careful in making sure that the poisoned food was only were the starlings were... it actually was INSIDE the garage and as fast as it killed them off I don't think many flew away to be found by any scavangers.

Actually I am taking them out to my in laws and will dig a hole with the backhoe to bury them. RH, sooner or later someone will come looking for the in-laws; burying them with their own backhoe is not a good solution. More importantly, what are you going to do with the birds?
