Okay, youse guys have come through for me before, so here goes again. I've been trying to find something that I'm not sure exists: Tabbed Word Processing.
You know how Firefox and other browsers have tabs across the top? You just click the one you want at any given instant, but the rest are always there waiting for you?
Or in Excel, you have different "sheets" in one file, selected by tabs along the bottom.
Why can't you do that in Word? That way, you can hop back and forth between various parts of a document easily and quickly. I'd like to create reports this way, with each section in its own tab, without having to scroll back and forth many pages between them.
I know that I COULD just open these different "tabs" in different documents, and use the Windows application tabs at the bottom of the screen. But that means opening many documents each time I edit it, and saving and closing many documents when I'm done. I'd rather have them all bundled into one file to open and close together.
Does anyone know of an application like this? It could even be a simple note-pad type program, it doesn't need to be a full-featured word processor. Thanks!........Jake

I don't know if the demo version is time-bombed or feature-crippled, but maybe it's worth a try. I found this with Google. If you try download.com, I believe you can filter your search by freeware.

Yeah, I know. That's what I usually do (freeware searching on download.com). I was just wondering if someone had found a way to accomplish the tabbing with Word or OOO or something or already had a favorite. Thanks......Jake

Playing around in Open Office Writer, I see they have a "Navigator" function. This lets you embed non-printing entities like bookmarks and sections into your document, then hop directly to them by clicking on them in the navigator list. It's still a flat file, but you can jump to your hearts content.
Not exactly what I was looking for, but getting there.......Jake
