OK, so far, you've managed to not give someone a Vermont Teddy Bear yet still want to do something a little ... special ... for Valentine's Day. What better than to mix a special cocktail for your lady? Oh, sure, most would opt for a Cosmopolitan. But what if you want to make something a little different? Is there something that you like to drink on this day? Is there something different you like to make for your lady on this day? Is there a cocktail you both like to share together to make the day special? I've got some suggestions. And if you want to share an unusual cocktail recipe for Valentine's Day, this would be the place to do it! I'll start off with something I've named "BB's Lemon Drop Flirtini" ... - 1.5 oz. Limoncello
- 1.5 oz. Vodka
- Maraschino cherries (with stems)
Pour the limoncello and vodka into a shaker of ice and shake for at least 30 seconds. Place a Maraschino cherry (with the stem -- mas importante!) into a cocktail glass and drizzle a little of the juice from the cherry jar into the glass. Strain the cocktail from the shaker into the glass. Voila! You've got yourself a pink cocktail for your special lady! Once she gets to the bottom of the drink, she uses her mouth to pick up the cherry by its stem and then ... she offers you her cherry! (thus, the Flirtini portion of the drink) What happens next is completely up to you ...

La Rosette is made with Rosé sparkling wine and St. Germain Elderflower liqueur. Take a champagne flute and fill it about three quarters of the way with the sparkling wine, then top it off with the St. Germain.
BTW, I'm a big fan of St. Germain and I don't think you can make a bad cocktail with it; a bottle comes with a booklet of drink recipes, so I highly recommend experimenting with them!

One last one ... Cranberry Jack! - 1 oz. of #7
- 1 oz. Chambord or Creme de Cassis
- 1 oz. cranberry juice
- 2 oz. sweet & sour mix
Pour all ingredients into a shaker full of ice and shake vigorously, then strain into a cocktail glass. Alternatively, you could do a "dry shake" (i.e., no ice in the shaker), then pour into a glass filled with ice. Either way, once you pour it, you may optionally top it off with a splash of Sprite. All of these drinks have a pinkish hue to them which *might* make them a perfect addition to your Valentine's Day.

I'm not familiar with most of these ingredients but I'm glad you posted them. It's good to have recipes to revisit later on. I'll try the Flirtini and hope I behave myself! I'd bet that I won't.

Shake well with lots of ice and serve with two Marschino Cherries.
The ladies like this one.

Limoncello is great.
We started drinking it on a cruise in 2005. I don't sip it I drink it in a shot glass and down it goes.
I'll have to try the Flirtini.

I'll have to try the Flirtini. "BB's Lemon Drop Flirtini" is a recipe I came up with but was based on a recipe I found in a booklet when I bought some limoncello a couple of years ago. You can try it with a lemon-infused vodka if you like, but I find the limoncello gives enough of a lemon taste that adding a lemon flavored vodka is overkill.

I'll try the Flirtini and hope I behave myself! I'd bet that I won't. Well, of course the whole idea behind BB's Lemon Drop Flirtini is that NO ONE behaves themselves! BTW, one variation -- drizzle the Maraschino cherry juice into the cocktail glass *after* you've poured in the drink. This will give you a two-tone cocktail -- pinkish red on the bottom (the juice sinks in there) and lemony yellow at the top! Still a yummy drink -- and ladies like it because it's very sweet (yes, I did some experimentation).

Ice cold vodka shots (any flavor will do). Repeat as necessary.
If you want to go really sweet, a shot of Barenjager Honey Liqueur. But even I can't do more than one of those, and I have a serious sweet tooth.
Zilla (okay dammit, the next time I come to Chicago I am so inviting Jake and Hazel to meet me at the Russian place near the Art Museum. This is, what, twice in a month that I have had serious cravings for something that involves that place)

We served Lemoncillo after dinner at our 2007 x-mas party we had. Some have never heard of it before so I taught them to drink it as shots. When that shit hits bottom it's lights out!!!!!!!!! We had a few people leave her talking to themselves.

I just read about a Limoncello Cream Liquor, that should be delicious but oh so fattening.

Here are some Strawberry Liqueur drinks that look good for Valentine's Day. Matter of fact, the site itself looks pretty interesting.

I saw this recipe on one of my podcasts, and it sounds really interesting. I'm currently making the rose infused simple syrup, but I'm having a helluva time finding "lychee juice"
Rosie Lee: 1.5 oz Hendricks Gin 2 oz Lychee Juice 1/2 lemon, juiced 0.5 oz rose infused simple syrup 2 dashes angustura bitters.
Shake all ingredients with ice (good hard shake), strain into martini glass. Garnish with a rose petal.
Zilla (who thinks Charlotte Voissey was the best Drink Art Girl he has ever had, because she is a real bartender and not just a bit of fluff)

From a quick Shopping Google , it would appear that it's available at Asian grocery stores/delis -- I would think there would be some in Denver, no? I know what you mean when it comes to trying to find obscure ingredients for cocktail recipes, though -- I wanted to try to make a Ramos Gin Fizz after hearing about it on "The Sopranos", but had a helluva time Orange Flower Water. Eventually, a bartender I chatted up clued me into the fact that it was available at Middle Eastern grocery stores. Since a number of those tend to be clustered in an area of Manhattan not far from my doctor's office, it was easy to find a place that carried it (but it's on the expensive side -- $5 for a small bottle!).
