I am already taking a French approach to the frontal assult this winter is putting on me.
The State Park Ranger Station about 30 miles south of here has already had 100 inches of snow this winter. Earliest ever for reaching that milestone.
I have had about 50+ inches now, and its been snowing pretty much continuous since Friday.
There is talk that we might get our first 400 inch winter this year.
Joy!

Do you eventually just dig a hole where your door is and call it a day?

Do you eventually just dig a hole where your door is and call it a day? Well... put it this way... this time of year I give my John Deer tractor and snow blower attachment better care and attention than my wife. If IT goes down on me, Im screwed, if she goes down on me, I get screwed. Subtile but important difference. I do have a photo somewhere around here of our daughter (when she was about 6) and one of our dogs, about to climb onto our roof from the top of the snow pile. If I can find it, I will scan and post.

Okay... my sister and brother-in-law lived on KI Sawyer Airforce base before it closed. they HAD to be there. What brings you to live in an area that tries to bury you every day from Thanksgiving to Memorial Day?

My wife is on the faculty at Michigan Tech. I could have set up my business just about anywhere. In fact I used some of her grad students as cheap labor at times (we have the same degree background, she teaches the subject, I do it).
So I guess that I dont HAVE to be here, but from May through September, I cant think of a nicer place to live.
Editted to add: I guess that I should add, that at the time, Ann had two job offers on the table, here and at U of Minnesota. We checked out what we could afford for housing (Minneapolis at the time, a 2 bedroom house in the older 'burbs) and decided that 120 acres and building a 2700 sqft house with just one neighbor within a half mile, and only a 7 mile commute for her to work, won out.

120 acres of snow, 2700 sqft house to heat -- eh? -- 7 miles to her work? Yup, that works.
I can say that this is the first time in many many years that we have even HAD snow before Christmas, and we have had very much (relatively). Fortunately, it pretty much melts on the streets during the day. It's looking to be a good ski year! (trying so hard to be a glass half full person, even given that I no longer have a ski partner! :-(

I guess skiing isn't the only thing going downhill for you then, eh?

I guess skiing isn't the only thing going downhill for you then, eh? Huh? I haven't had a 'ski partner' for many years -- but I have had a very fulfilling relationship since then, and am now in a very happy relationship with a non-skier, but I still love to ski, and will continue to do so! Downhill whenever possible!!
