I know I haven't been here too much lately.......but I did mention on Gary's recent thread that I was hosting/catering a 50th Anniversary party. Well, this shindig was today. I just spent the past 4 days making sourdough rolls, sauces, etc. and did the main cooking today. I'm worn out, but I think it was a success. The folks attending thought I was a *professional chef*. I don't think there's a whole lot of leftovers.....Doesn't matter....I'm NOT cooking tomorrow! I'm feeling good about this accomplishment. Ok....a couple bottles of awesome wine certainly helps the mood. Here's the menu.... Vegetable Platter with Wasabi-Dill Dip Chipotle Dip Vegetable Dip Fruit Platter with Vanilla Mint Yogurt Dip Chinese Chicken Pate with Hoisin Sauce Cheese and Salami Platter Assorted Breads & Crackers Smoked Prime Rib with Fresh Horseradish Cream Sauce Kahlua Pork with Carolina BBQ Sauce Grilled Leg of Lamb with Jalapeno-Mint Chimichurri Sauce Baby Green Beans in Shallot Butter Sauce Ratatouille with Parmesan Cheese (Assorted squash with mushrooms, onions and tomatoes) Scalloped Potatoes Alaskan Sourdough Rolls Cake (I didn't make it or order it) ============================ Company was here for 7 hours....I guess I can call it a success. ;D The only pics I managed to get was of the *whores doovers*. I don't think anyone took pics of the dinner.....neither did I. Cher (who's NOT going into the catering business, but will cook for friends & family)

Sounds wonderful. And it looks like you did a fantastic job with garnishments and colors. Kudos to you!
How many people were there? Did you do the whole thing buffet style?
Zilla (who loves to cook, but I'm not sure I could pull together a shindig like that and still be able to enjoy it myself)

Thanks, Zil.
It was a buffet for 20 people, but I had enough food for 35. The wives fixed up the platters for me as I had everything cut and prepped the day before. They did a wonderful job. When it came time for dinner, the guys carved the meats.
I was able to sit down and enjoy the party at 5:15pm and they all left at 8:00. Rick is already wanting to consolidate the food and shut down a fridge....I need another cup of coffee before I can even think about it.

Cher
Looks and sounds great....That is the type of thing I would love to do for a bunch of good friends.
If only I had enough room...

Cher that looks great and what a huge selection. Zilla beat me to it but the colors stand out.
I saw a documentary (PBS) on the "American Diet" last year. A super program but anyway, one of the doctors interviewed said "your plate should look like a rainbow." Meaning, vegetables will keep you healthy and not the Adkins type diet that has gotten lots of attention.
Nice picture!

Meaning, vegetables will keep you healthy and not the Adkins type diet that has gotten lots of attention. Atkins is designed more for people who are carb-heavy in their diet and don't exercise enough; generally, the carbs are fine, provided you limit the portion size and work them off with exercise. That said, I'm a Type 2 diabetic and the Atkins diet is my only option -- otherwise, it'd be difficult to keep my blood sugars in a manageable range.

Looks and sounds delicious Cher!! Your guests were very lucky to have such a wonderful meal laid on for them, and I hope that you got to relax and enjoy the food and the company after all your efforts.
But one thing I'm confused about... there's no sign of any Haggis. What's up with that?

I assumed that the haggis was gobbled up so quickly, it was gone before anyone could snap pix of it.

BB,
You would find the documentary interesting. Maybe WNET-13 will play it again.

I hope that you got to relax and enjoy the food and the company after all your efforts. After a few hours of preparing and grilling you just crash in a chair while everyone eats. I'm happy just to sit down with a cold beer. Did this ever happen to you guys?

My wife loves Thanksgiving not only because of friends and family coming over but the huge party going on in the kitchen. I don't know how she does all that work. It looks like a tornado went through there.

That said though, I enjoy a few glasses of wine when I'm cooking for company so I'll often be half-cut by the time I finally get to sit down. Simon

Sitting down with a cold beer? MMM, maybe once or twice. True, and on an empty stomach and more like 4 or 5 beers.

Last night I made a Tuscan Styled Porterhouse Steak to start a new thread. I got a good laugh when I saw Cheryl's picture so colorful and healthy and my creation is a cardiologists dream. My pictures might as well be in black and white. It turned out good though.

Last night I was pleased with how my steak turned out and I must have said it a few times. ;D My wife was a good sport because I make so few meals compared to her and suddenly I'm a gourmet, with a digital camera no less.

But one thing I'm confused about... there's no sign of any Haggis. What's up with that? The closest thing to Haggis is the chinese chicken pate. I made it with ground chicken titties and frosted it with hoisin sauce.

It looks like a tornado went through there. I had 4 or 5 glasses of wine while I cooked and the kitchen was a wreck. Someone snapped a pic of me giving orders on meat slicing while I was cooking up the shallots for the green beans. The date/time stamp is wrong, but you can see a glass of wine (Zinfandel) above it. Cher (Who definitely looked as bad as the kitchen)

I made it with ground chicken titties ... I always wondered where McDonald's got their McNuggets from. Now I know.

Here you go, Gordon....... Frosted Chinese Chicken Pate 1/2 cup sliced scallions 1" fresh ginger, peeled and sliced 1 large clove garlic, chopped 2 Tbs peanut oil (I used Canola) 2 Tbs sherry 2 Tbs sesame oil 2 Tbs soy sauce pinch of sugar pinch of salt Process in food processor until veggies are minced. Add: 1 1/2 lbs ground chicken titties (raw) 3 eggs Mix well. Dump the mixture into an oiled 4 x 7 1/2 inch loaf pan. Bake in a water bath (9x13 pan half full of water with loaf in the center) in a 325 deg oven for 60 to 70 minutes. To serve: Place pate on a platter, frost with hoisin sauce and sliced green onions. Serve with sesame rice crackers and assorted breads.

Looks great to me! I'd love to do all that for a passel of people. My grandmother was quite a gourmet cook and taught us but I really haven't cooked on that scale before. I would love to entertain more - maybe after we don't have so many doggies and we make our last move to our "retirement" place. I'm looking forward to it. Also, have no room in a small galley kitchen here (UGH!).
Cher, your food looks absolutely outta sight! (and I'm sure it was and everyone enjoyed it).
Thanks for sharing.
Colleen
