I have been rather silent on the Lakers success in the NBA Playoffs but they are only 1 win away from going to the NBA Finals.
Right now with MVP Kobe they stand a real good chance of winning the whole thing.
I have been a Laker Fan since the late 60's and have done so during good and bad times. The last 3 season have sucked and it is sure nice to see them on top again.
They have had some great teams in the past but this one has the extra fire in it that I have never seen in a Laker team before to make them a winner.
Joe.( who says fuck baseball and let's watch a real game with some action in it)

So Joe, who is it going to be... Pistons or Celtics?
Edited: Detroit has sucked at baseball/football for years but excelled in the winter sports for a couple decades now. There is a LOT of talk going around at having a good chance to capture both hockey and basketball championships this year. Last time that one city did that was New York in the late 1920's with the Rangers and a team from the old defunct American Basketball League... it might have been '28. Detroit hosted a Stanley Cup game and an Eastern Conference Final game on the same day this past weekend.

Tough call. Neither time has really taken home court advantage with each winning one in the others gym. I watched part of game 2 & 3 with no one really in solid command. Celtics in 7. Maybe.

Beeb, just be sure you say the name properly, with a hard 'C' sounds... as in the Boston Keltics... being from NY, Bostonians will appreciate the effort at authenticity

Championship will be Celtics v. Lakers; Celts in 7. Thats very possible with the home teams winning all the games. Home court advantage has been very big in this years playoffs. However the Lakers have won 4 on the road. 2 in Denver, 1 in Utah and San Antonio. The Celtics have only won 1 on the road and that's in Detroit. I am going to say Lakers in 6. Phil Jackson is the difference. Joe

Lakers VS Celtic in the NBA Finals. This is the 13th time they meet in the past 40 years.
Going to stick my neck out and say the Lakers in 6. They are younger, faster, and have proven that they can win away from home, and the also have Kobe.

Sounds about right Joe, although there is something compelling about Boston completing its "Worst to First" season.
Three years in a row that the Pistons have gone out in Game 6 of the Eastern Finals, you can probably say goodbye to that lineup and look for a whole new team next year.

Don't forget most of Boston's games are pl;ayed against weaker Eastern Conference teams. All the teams in the West that made the playoff's had 50 or more wins. Atlanta a team that went something like 34 -58 for the season took Boston to 7 games. Joe.

Boston's going to be pumped because they know the Lakers have been getting too much hype for being the best team in the league; believing their own hype is what will do them in.

You better hope the series goes long enough to last until the football season, because you got NOTHING to look forward to in the baseball season: sports.espn.go.com/mlb/standings2008 National League - Standings WEST W L PCT GB HOME ROAD RS RA STRK L10 Arizona 32 25 .561 - 21-12 11-13 287 234 Won 2 4-6 LA Dodgers 27 29 .482 4.5 15-11 12-18 249 242 Lost 2 2-8 San Francisco 24 33 .421 8 12-17 12-16 218 268 Won 1 6-4 San Diego 23 35 .397 9.5 13-15 10-20 210 271 Lost 1 6-4 Colorado 20 37 .351 12 12-14 8-23 240 314 Lost 7 2-8

Gotta make my call on this... if Boston goes to LA 2-0 it will be Boston in 7, otherwise LA in 5

All that LA needs to do is win one in Boston. Split the road trip and then back to LA for 3 and it's over. Boston did win 2 in Detriot but I don't think they can win in LA. La is still undeafted at home and have not lost a game in LA since late March.
I say the difference between the two teams is the coach. Jackson has won 9 NBA titles in 10 trips to the finals. Rivers, well this is his first shot.
Both teams are equal in playoff experience except the Lakers have Kobe and Fisher in the back court and they won 3 titles back to back to back together. There is the difference.
And then there's Jack in LA.

Bastards finally realized last night that they have to play to win this series. Kobe got down to business and the rest of team kind of followed last night to climb back into the series. If they can win Thursday and Sunday and get the momentium on their side they might just win game 6 in Boston next Tuesday and wrap this thing up.
Urgency, urgency, thats what they have to play with.
Joe.

This is Bostons series. Lakers blew that one last big time. To many young guys off the bench. I don't think unless they are super lucky that they casn win 3 in a row. They will win game 5 and maybe game 6 but not game 7. Young team this year means championship next year.
