OK all of us posting in this thread must have some level of geek, otherwise we wouldnt be here. What are YOU especially geeky about. I wish to proclaim my attainment of Master Geek 5th Level. I have done this by hooking up the wireless weather station that my family got me for Fathers Day to the Weather Underground web site. So now you all can get the temp wind rain etc in my yard by going to www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=KMIATLAN1

"Somebody make it stop PLEASE!", there is a madness to my method , if I can find the right combination of steller inanity with mind numbing repetition, Jake will crack and Lock a thread.

I have thought about doing that myself Gord, we don't have anyone here in my little town with a "personal" weather station. Plus, I could list it as "Robin Hood Network Solutions & Computer Repair" then take it off on taxes as a business expense. ;D

Speaking of tax deductions, if I would happen to "talk shop" while at Hedo, does my trip then become tax deductable?
Need input from a accountant here!! This is a real question, I may be speaking with a future client while we are there.

I have been looking at several weather stations, including those from Oregon Scientific and, I think, Peet Brothers or something like that (sorry.....sittin' in a hotel in Naples, FL tonight and don't have access to home info), both of which allow you to do what you have. However, my next project is to put a GPS hookup into my car that will send my location via 2-meter Ham radio to local repeaters that will post my location on the internet so Rhonda (and anyone else for that matter) can see exactly where my car is. How Geeky is that?? ............Bob

Speaking of tax deductions, if I would happen to "talk shop" while at Hedo, does my trip then become tax deductible? I'm not an accountant, but I play one at work (since I, too, own my business). My (possibly wrong) understanding is that the trip has to be at least 51% business and then can't include any expenses that were not necessary for the business purposes. If you spend less than 51% of your trip doing business, then the IRS counts your flight as being for your vacation, not the business. You can expense your hotel and food for any days when the day was at least 51% business, but any days that were less than 51% business are vacation days. If you go out to a restaurant and discuss business, I'd guess you could expense that just like at home. If you bring any non-employees with you, all additional expenses incurred because of them (flight, extra rooms, food, etc.) are NOT deductible even if you meet the 51%. So the short answer is, "No, your trip is not deductible just because you had a short discussion about business on the beach." Jeremy P.S. The IRS is going to crack down on cars. They are going to be auditing business claiming automobile expenses to see if any records were kept and if the records seem accurate. If they decide that you have been claiming personal travel (which includes your first trip each day from home to any work location and your last trip each day from any work location to home), they are going to charge you back taxes as well as penalties and interest.
