Jake, perhaps you've already considered this and rejected it for various reasons, but apparently, there's code that allows users to embed YouTube videos in posts in a ProBoards-hosted message board: There seem to be a growing number of folks here that like to post the links and I was wondering if you thought it might be useful to try on TNMC. That's the only reason I can think of to do it, but I can think of a lot more reasons NOT to do it, so I can certainly understand why you'd want to pass on it, but figured I'd ask anyway. === Edited to add: For an example of how it would look, try this message board.

No, I never heard of that with a ProBoards, although I've seen YouTube videos embedded in many other sites. In my experience, they only work about half the time.
I think I'll pass on this one. For one thing, any code you add to the global headers and footers slows down the board performance, having to load every time someone refreshes a page. For another, I'd worry about some sort of "auto start" issue launching a video when a page is opened, which could be a problem. I know they aren't supposed to auto-launch, but you never know.
And I don't think the benefits of embedding are very impressive; it isn't much of a problem to click one link to go to the YouTube page where the video resides.
But thanks for the alert! There are lots of cool ProBoards extensions out there. It is like the Firefox of message board software.......Jake

In my experience, if the folks posting the embed have half a brain it works most of the time. I wish we had that here.

I must of abused the music vids at YouTube cause I have been blocked. If embedding a code will get me through the back door of YouTube, please embed.

Okay, I live to serve. I set up a board for embedded videos at the TNMC lifeboat site. That way, if it screws things up, at least it is encapsulated. If it works fine over there, maybe I'll port it over to here. You can find the new video playground at: tnmclifeboat.proboards46.com/index.cgiYou don't have to be a member over there to post. Have fun!

Ahhh, a new use for the lifeboat, prototype testing, I suppose it will sink quicker when in use now.

For those of you who haven't already noticed, ProBoards has apparently pushed another upgrade to us which now allows the embedding of YouTube Videos. Quote this post to see how its done: (Note: for you TNMC LifeBoat members, the tags are slightly different)

Hopefully, your tips were all in Euros -- the other stuff we use here for currency is nearly worthless at this point.

Yes they were mainly Euros, which is a problem in itself as those One Euro coins are a bitch to keep tucked in your underpants elastic.

Never let people know thats where you keep the coins Simon, people will start asking for ch-ch-change.

Don't be silly -- I doubt people would ask Simon to ch-ch-change his underwear.

BTW, I think I may have found a bug in this embedded YouTube video feature.
It appears some videos may not play if the URL contains a hyphen.
E.g., this one works ...
... but this one doesn't ...
Quote the post and look at the string between the tags to see what I mean.

Well, I do have my suspicions, but I'm not going to confirm anything until I've thoroughly examined a stool sample -- anyone's.
