Why do we pay our politician the big bucks to make up stupid laws for us? We got a good one that just started here 1/1/05. In California as of 1/1 if you have your windshield wipers going, you must turn on your head lights, or you will be ticketed. What a stupid F**king law. So know the cops have to watch for no headlights when wipers moving, f**k the speeders, crazy drivers, and the illegals with no drivers license, we have a priority now, got to get those no headlight wiper people. Give me a f**king brake. Yeah if it's raining and dark it's a smart thing to do and 99.9% of the people do it already. But what if you are cleaning your windshield in the middle of the f**king summer. Turn on those f**king headlights. Instead of getting our budget fixed, they f**ked around in Sacramento for 2 days on this stupid law. What really pisses me off is that Arnold signed the dam thing. Thank you for listening. Joe.

JD
I happen to love this law. Obviously, the intent is to have people turn on their headlights when it's RAINING. But, with all the lawyers out there, the only wording that holds up in court is when the wipers are on.
Hard to define 'dark, reduced visibility, rain etc. But pretty cut -n- dry when your wipers are on.
Florida has had this law for at least 20 years and works wonders!

Why waste time screwing around with a what I consider to be a stupid law when 99.99999999% of the people do it already. The F'n politicians in my state know dam well there are bigger problems than that, but they won't tackle those. Joe.

California must be an amazing state!
I know in MD we are lucky if half the cars have their lights on when it's raining. Trust me, I'm a geek and have counted the cars on the way to or from work...
Also, took a look at the exact wording of the CA statute. It's required for 'continuous' use of the windshield wiper, so cleaning your windshield during a sunny day is not illegal.
Also, it's intersting how the law came to be. It was suggested by a citizen in a program that Assemblyman Joe Simitian has called "It Ought to be a Law".

[quote author=Gary Also, it's intersting how the law came to be. It was suggested by a citizen in a program that Assemblyman Joe Simitian has called "It Ought to be a Law ======================================= They have this program because none of them are smart enough to come up with anything on their own. ;D Also I did read the law, but it has not been explained to the public like that by the news media out here. It was simply no headlight when wipers on you get a ticket. Not until yesterday during a radio talk show did I not hear different. Still it is a waste of tax payers money for any politician to waste time with something like this. We have teacher being layed off, schools possibly closing due to lack of funds, roads that are turning into sink holes because they have taken the highway tax to pay politicians to waste time in Sacramento screwing around with stupid laws like this. If everything else was running just fine here I woull give a dam, but we have bigger fish to fry than headlights and wipers. Joe.

Hey Joe,
I understand fully where you are coming from if they really spent 2 days working on this bill. That is outrageous!
For once at least, CA isn't breaking ground with a NEW, controversial law.
How's the vineyard holding up to all the rain?

Gary[/quote] =======================================
It's wet, muddy, cold, but other wise this weather is actually good for the vines right know. They need it.
Also to be truthfully I don't know if they wasted two days or not, but I watch these idiots on the California Legislature Channel and it seems like it takes them 2 days to decide on anything except for lunchtime and pay raises for themselves.
Joe.

It's for the morons who don't know enough to turn on their headlights in the rain. I used to drive a truck and it's pretty hard to see certain color cars in the rain beside the truck when looking in the mirrors. If you want to pick on dumb laws Joe get a little more creative. Ian... in case you didn't know ;D

As long as those moron's in Sacramento keep fighting over the budget, and wasting time and money and not getting this states problems solved, I am going to keep picking on them for wasting time with these type of laws. The funny thing is on that talk show yesterday, 99% of the people that called in felt the same way.
Most of the politicians in California are only interested in seeing their name on some new law. They don't care what type, how stupid or how much time they waste.
Here's another. If you are under 14 years old you can not us a tanning bed without a Doctors prescription. STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What ever happened to parents making decisions for the children?

Guys! How out of touch with the real world are you? I don't know about your local newspaper, but mine REGULARLY has stories of JuanSchmo and TyroneBush and BillyBob and Hunter worthington, III in daddy's car (I think I covered most everyone here, so as not to be racist) being pulled over for: no headlights on when it's raining; no seatbelt; no turn signal when ch-ch-changing lanes; etc. These laws are only A REASON TO PULL YOU OVER!!! And from that can come a multitude of things. If you or I were pulled over for no seatbelt or no headlights when the wipers would on, they would say "have a good day". But if my son (or any of the aforementioned) were pulled over for no seatbelt or no headlights, with a car full of punks, he would hassle them and probably try to find something wrong somewhere. It's elementary, my dear! As law-abiding citizens that we all are, some of us may say "have at it", but that is one of the founding foundations of America - freedom from unreasonable search and seizure.
Actually, it cracks me up, when a car is pulled over on I-95 (cocaine alley) for a busted headlight, and they find a million dollars worth of cocaine in the trunk. Headlight? $50!
Anyway, in an over-regulated society, they will eventually have enough 'stupid' rules that they will eventually have 'carte blanch' to detain any and all of us for piddling reason. (ooops! they already pretty much have that now with the "Patriot Act")
