A friend who works at the al-Asad marine corp base in Iraq had been telling me recently about the sandstorms that engulf them from time to time. These amazing pictures show one of these awesome natural phenomena as it hit the base on Tuesday :
They had storms like that in the 1930's in Oklahoma and the Texas panhandle (Dust Bowl). I've seen pictures of farm houses that were covered up by the sand except for the peak of the roof.
We have a buddy that was in the first Gulf War. He said that it was a challenge to keep the sand out of machinery and weaponry.
But I didn't see anything specifically interesting right at the end.
At the end the sandstorm almost completely blocks out all daylight creating a near blackout. I don't know what I expected to see but that did surprise me a little, so I mentioned watching it to the end so others wouldn't miss it.
