I am just finishing up a trilogy from Kim Stanley Robinson called "Red Mars", "Green Mars", "Blue Mars". You intelectual types might enjoy it, it explores some interesting economic, political, and ethical scenerios. It is really pretty cool Sci-Fi writting, because it is BELIVABLE.
Kim Stanley Robinson also wrote a book called "Antartica" very cool book. After reading "Antartica" I wouldn't mind spending a summer down there working, it sounds like it could be an interesting few months.

I read the Mars series a few years back, I thought the first book was fantastic, second was pretty good, the third was "What the Fuck where are you taking me?"
I found his most recent book "Forty Signs of Rain" a disappointment, HOWEVER, I have his "The Years of Rice and Salt" on my soon to read list (Bob, dont even consider that one!)

"The Years of Rice and Salt" on my soon to read list (Bob, dont even consider that one!) Gordon don't bother, I didn't mention it for a reason, it was interesting for about the first 3 pages, after that, it is all over the fucking place, and just a waste of paper. I consider myself a fairly intelligent person, and I'll be damned if I could figure out what the fuck that book was about.

Well that pretty well wraps up THAT author for me then. Red Mars was the first book of his that I read, and I thought WOW... but after reading everything else and getting more and more disappointed, it seems to be time to put that author aside.
Your opinion... do you Red Mars would translate well into a movie? Have to admit having that tower come down would make a HELLUVA scene!

I actually would LOVE to see a mini series made out of the 3 books, obviously they would be VERY high budget so I doubt if anyone would venture the capital for a movie that would only pull in a medium audience.
