The Devil Wears Prada; by Lauren Weisberger
I picked this one up to put in my daughter's Easter basket who is 24 and perhaps that is the age group it might appeal to since the author herself is only 26. Maybe she'll like it.
Loved the name - but that's about it. Pretty light (and shallow) reading. Not a big deal and I am amazed at all the good reviews I've seen If you have an interest in the fashion industry it might catch your attention other than that, it's no big deal. It's basically tells a very catty and narrow view of what life is like to work for a fashion industry publication (with an unsaid stab at Anna Wintour, editor of Vogue).
If you're going to read it, get it used from Amazon or better yet the library!

I am going to the library to look for this book. I wear Prada. Does that make me evil? (There are some that would say I need not wear anything to be evil) If so somebody better tell the Pope as he was sporting shoes made by Prada.

Renee, I just returned this book to the library unread! That is almost history making for me because I will read just about anything. You were absolutely right on, this book is UNBELIEVABLY boring!

I went and saw a special screening last night with a bunch of estiticians, hair stylists, and manicurists.
The movie is light and fluffy. It's full of pretty clothes, pretty people, and pretty people wearing pretty clothes. I felt Anne Hathaway gave an average performance, and Meryl Streep was doing a part she could play in her sleep. Nor was I able to develop enough affection for the main characters to *care* about the struggles they went through. On the whole, I would have been very bored if I hadn't had the audience to keep me entertained. They appeared to get more enjoyment out of the movie than i did. Perhaps because they tend to deal on an hourly basis with the sort of people caricatured in the movie.
If you are looking for something light and fluffy, that does not require any real engagement from the audience this might be a movie that fits the bill. I personally would not recommend it.
Zilla (who also has a write up of "Cars" to do at some point...i liked "Cars" much better than this)

I bought "The Devil Wears Prada" while waiting at LaGuardia for a flight to Chicago back in June. I read the first 3 chapters then lost interest. I put it aside for a while, meaning to get back to it when I had some free time, and now I can't find it. Damn! I should have taken Renee's advice and checked it out of the library for free instead of buying it. Now I doubt I'll ever finish reading it. Maybe I'll wait for the movie to come out on DVD. Or did that suck, too? {{sigh}}
This morning I finished "The Kite Runner" during my morning commute to work. I'll review it in the appropriate thread if I can find it.
