Hello all, we are taking our first trip to Caliente Caribe in the Dominican Republic. Has anyone been before? Would love some feedback.

Dean and Patti,
Is this the crazy Canadians, Dean and Patti?? Either way, I was there in July 2006 when it was still called Eden Bay, and owned by the same folks as Caliente in FL. It was ok, and I'm glad I went, but most likely wouldn't return. Not that anything was wrong with it (except no true beach....very rocky), but more that there are a lot of other places I'd like to see, and nothing overly awesome to make me want to return. The food was ok....breakfast seemed the best meal of the day, lunch was served in the cabana down by the main pool and it was ok. I skipped dinner most nights, just nothing that really appealled to me. All meals are ordered from a menu, no buffets there.
You can be nude there, even during meals and one guy that was there, made it his 8 day challenge to NEVER put a article of cothing on. He succeeded, even during his tennis play. The biggest downside to the place was NO air conditioning and we were there in the summertime. We ended up sleeping with the front and back door of the room open to at least get somewhat of a cross breeze. I've heard they've added air, but I'd confirm that before going. The best part of the trip, and one I'd suggest to anyone....is get a massage and do it outdoors. The have a massage hut down by the rocks on the beach and somewhat secluded. The crashing of the water on the rocks along with the massage was outstanding. Now the fact that I think the massage was the best part of the trip should tell you something.
Like I said, I'm glad I went, and if you've never been, it's worth it....at least once. Just didn't have anything to make me want to draw back there. Have fun...the Dominican people are really nice people and the hotel staff is all very nice.

Yes it's us Diane. Thanks for writing. From what we have read, there have been lots of updates at Caliente over the last year or so. There's air in all the units now for sure. We were looking for something different do do this winter. We miss the WWW'ers but felt it was time for a ch-ch-change. There are a lot of places to spend our vacation money.

Indeed there sure are a lot of places to spend our bucks. It is definately a nice place....a long, long, long walk from the rooms to the pool down on the beach (they have two pools there. For some reason, most gather at the beach pool during the day and at the main one off the dining room in the evenings....wait, that is cuz the main bar is open at night and the pool one during the day, never mind!!). I think I counted 130+ steps from our second floor room, down the steps to the main floor and then something equivalent to three or floors down to the beach pool. It was good, about the only exercise I got that week.
Like I said, I enjoyed it, and the price was definately right at the time, I'm sure you'll have a great time. The Dominican people are all very nice, and the service was outstanding. They actually acted like they appreciated the business, which is a nice ch-ch-change from some vacations. I'd be interested to hear how the trip goes when you return. Have a blast, you two could have fun in a paper bag, so I'm sure you will.
hugs to you both,

Thanks for the kind words Di. We may have lucked out on the resort a bit. Since we booked so late, all the lower priced rooms..the ones up the cliff ..were booked. They gave us a great rate (40% off) on a Ocean View Villa which is on the beach level. There will probably be lots of walking either way but we can use the exercise. We will post a report when we get back.
