I was just wondering if anyone is going to Bike week in Sturgis? I wouldn't want to miss a chance to meet up with any board members if they are there. I leave for the Fire and Ice Bike Rally in Grants, New Mexico on Wednesday. From there I will go to Butte, Montana for Evel Knievel Days (the last weekend of July), and then on to Sturgis.

I always wanted to do this and I don't even have a bike. My favorite Harleys are Sporter Customs and the 1340 Bad Boy model of 1995.

I have always liked the way the Softails look (which is what the Bad Boy is) but I like the way sport bikes handle such as the FXR's. (Which was my all time favorite bike) I have a HD Low Rider now. I have never been a Sportster fan, as I don't think they they don't handle as well. This was the bike I had but it wasn't reliable. I used to call it the "Prom Queen", Pretty to look at but hard to live with. It was an American Ironhorse Slammer. It had a 107 S&S motor with a 5 speed Baker transmission with a right side drive (which was absolutely awesome). I think the back tire was a 240. This was a better pic of the bike than me, as we had been up all night gambling! I have to admit that bike was fun to ride...

I always wanted a Dyna Super Glide, but Rhonda said she trusted me flying a plane WITHOUT an engine more than she did riding a motorcycle! I bought the plane! Go figure!!
We did attend Sturgis one year . . . . I think it was 2002. We drove up to Sioux Falls, SD where Rhonda's folks live and I said I wanted to go see the "badlands!" Rhonda said, "well, you know the Sturgis rally will be going on."
"What's that," I asked. (Truly, I had no idea. I've lived a sheltered life!)
We rode out to Sturgis in our SUV and, well, DAMN!! Unbelievable!
We're gonna be in Sioux Falls the last week of July, but will miss the rally.
Ride'em hard, Edie!! Ride'em hard! ;D ;D

Very nice Colleen!!! Congratulations! Lots more comfortable isn't it? Wish you guys were going to Sturgis. It would be great to see y'all!!! I talked to two Hedo freinds in the last week that I plan to meet up with in Sturgis!

Wish we were going too - I'm starting a new job next Monday and we just can't take time off right now. We're still booked but may miss Sandy Hook this year too - will have to make a decision on that - we could still come in for Saturday if I can convince Randy. The bike is more comfortable - it's lower so that's good for both of us - I've already been on the back of this one - wasn't comfortable on the back of the Sportster.
We'll DEFINITELY see ya at Hedo - we're booked and paid for and my vacation is cleared ahead of time. Can't wait for that!!!

Until this thread went up, I'd never heard of Sturgis; the city or the rally.
And then today, I'm talking with a business associate who mentioned that he is going to Sturgis. I said, "Oh, for the bike rally?" Now he thinks I'm pretty cool!........Jake (he's wrong, of course, but so what)

Jake - we always knew you were cool anyway...glad this discussion has helped out your "cool" image... Patty - I'm having a hard time convincing Randy to come for the day - or drive in Friday night after work - I'd do all the driving - I've kept the reservation and am still trying to work on him. (except we won't be in Thursday as I'd originally planned if we come) And I think I'd actually make this trip without getting lost in NJ for the first time too.... lol! (we only had a very SHORT detour for the Philly Hedo Party at the Flying W we went to in Jan... - GPS helped with that!) I just returned from 2 days in Baltimore for training on my new job - start on Monday the 23rd in DC - am looking forward to it. My new boss seems really nice and her last secretary was with her 9 years so I'm hoping this job will work out for me better than the last one. Definitely found out what I'm NOT looking for at that one and that money isn't always everything....(though it helps... ) Edie - we'll definitely have to plan to meet up one year at Sturgis - would be a lot of fun! Hope you have (are having by now) a GREAT trip! Our best to any mutual acquaintances you happen to see (if any). Colleen

Great pictures Colleen, the bike looks very comfortable. I love the leather studded saddle bags and tassels on the grips. Very nice bike!

The saddle bags were one of the selling points for Randy - he's been using it more to go back and forth to work since gas prices have gotten so high and needs the rooms to bring things along with him. (he's been saving a lot of money using the bike instead of the truck) He wasn't sure about the leather tassels on the bike and may take them off - I like them and he may be ch-ch-changing his mind, I'm not sure.

Thanks, Tex! Well it will be a short stay at home...I am leaving Wednesday afternoon for Denver. I will be working the bike rally in Loveland Colorado this next weekend and then it is on to California for a couple more gigs (and I plan to sneak in a little time with my son!) After that it will be Albuquerque and then on to Panama City Beach (Florida). That will be the first weekend in October. At that time I hope to get a day or two at home! I hadn't planned on this becoming a full time gig but it seems to be working out that way. ;D I will try and get a quick trip report done, but I don't have much time!

anyone heard from miss edie? is she still on the road?? Biketoberfest starts in Daytona this week. I would guess that with a Bike event this close to home that she would try to be home for it. Maybe we'll get a brief appearance from her ! Hank
