Tonight's movie was Eli Craig's "Tucker & Dale vs. Evil" from 2010. Why have I never heard of this movie before? Netflix Streaming seemed to think I would like it, and they were RIGHT! Basically, this is a spoof, but a very well done one. You know the cliche of college kids going to a cabin in the woods to party, smoke dope, and have sex, but then they run into some killer hillbillies and come down with a bad case of getting killed? Well this movie pretty much turns that on its head by flipping the perspective. I'll say no more lest I spoil it, but suffice to say it is hilarious, and I highly recommend it to fans of the genre. And fans of wood chippers. The only name associated with this movie that I've ever heard before was Alan Tudyk, who plays one of the hillbillies, and he was great at it. And he wasn't even the main character! I could probably compare this movie favorably to the first two Evil Dead movies, in the way that it re-invigorates a possibly stale genre. Or I could say that it is a puckish commentary on how society stereotypes people, and usually to ill effect. But instead of either of those, I'll just say that it is good gory fun, and you should watch it.
