Anyone here play golf? Denice and I started last November to add it to a list of things to do when we are traveling with our Travel Trailer. So far we both have improved rather well the past 6 months, or at least I think we have.
Saturday we played at our local course and I had the whole bag of tricks working. I was driving the ball well, short game and chipping was fantastic and the putting was good. I shot a 84 on a par 72 course. Not bad for a beginner. Well we went out and played Sunday and I couldn't hit the side of a barn with a bulldozer. I shanked half my drives,(lost 2 brand new golf balls) the short game was okay but my putting just sucked. I shot 98 on the same par 72 course. Needless to say I was a bit pissed and disappointed with my performance.
My son-in-law is great golfer. Jason can hit that fucking little white ball a country mile. He played on his high school team and he says that is how it goes. One day you are Tiger Woods and the next your a just any other normal shit head player.
The game is supposed to be relaxing and a great place to unwind, but when things go to shit the relaxing part goes to shit with the game.
edited to add: We are goimg back out Saturday. I hope it's a lot better. Also this is an rather expensive game. the coast of clubs, shoes, balls and yes more balls, green and cart fees it all added up.

When I was a kid, I golfed with some friends. The local park district had a deal where you could get a pass for $10 that let you golf all summer for no additional fee. The catch was you had to be under 16. Once I turned 16 I asked myself if I really wanted to pay whatever it was to keep golfing. I decided I didn't like it enough to actually pay per round. And I sucked at it! Never swung a club again.

Joe - seriously - you shot an 84 one day? How many mulligans did you take? There is NO SUCH THING as a "beginner" shooting an 84. WTF?? I have played a lot of golf over the years, off and on. I played a local course out your way when we were there last - very nice!! There were 4 or 5 years recently when I was addicted to golf - took regular lessons and got my handicap down to 5. I was shooting rounds in the mid to upper 70s - REAL scores (not mulligans) and was having a blast. I got to the point where I needed to be on the course EVERY DAY! Unless I was practicing EVERY DAY, I lost my skills. Play Sunday and then not again till the next Saturday? NEGATIVE! I'd suck. I had to play EVERY DAY to keep my skills up and it got to the point I was simply not going to get any better unless I was out there every day. As much as I played and as good as I got, I simply remain stunned at the skill of the pros. Those guys are in an entirely different universe playing a game of which I am not familiar. I'm a pretty big guy with a swing speed over 100 mph. One day I was at my club and Brittany Lincicome walked around the corner headed out to play. She lives in the area and I stopped and talked with her a bit. I walked out to watch her tee off and from the tips, she drove the ball nearly to the point I do when I'm driving from the standard men's tee. I was like, FUCK!! How does this girl hit the ball further than I do??!!?? Golf is a very frustrating game my friend. Give it up!! .............Bob

Joe - seriously - you shot an 84 one day? How many mulligans did you take? There is NO SUCH THING as a "beginner" shooting an 84. WTF?? .............Bob Bob no shit I did shoot an 84. Denice was there. It was one of those days that everything, plus lots of luck just kicked in. I did make one error. The course is a par 70 not 72, so I had a 14 over not 12. By the way there might have been 1 or 2 mulligans in there someplace. The 84 made up for lots of high 90's and a couple of 100+ on the same course. My goal when we go out to play is to play boogie golf. The course we play the most is an 9 hole course we just go around twice. It has 3 par 3's, 2 Par 5's, and 4 par 4's. If I can par the 3's and couple of the par 4.s and maybe pick up a birdie on a couple of the par 3's, I can play boogie golf. Two weeks earlier I shot a 89 on the same course. Most of the time I shoot 90 to 92. Here is the web site for the course. taymanparkgolfcourse.com. It's not a big course 5244 yards from the blue tee's, so there are a lot of short drives, it's not a PGA 6000 yard plus course. On the par 4's if you can get a great tee shot then it's a short hit and a couple of putts. My drives average about 200 yards and I am pretty good with my irons, my putting game is so-so. On a big course I could never hit an 84 more like 104. My handicap is at 24 a dropping. I get to play my first 6200 yard course on May 17th in Redding, CA. I guess I'll get to see just how fucking bad I am. The gal that Denice and took lessions from played for the University of Tennesse. She can hit the fucking ball farherr than I can ever think of. She is a damn good teacher. She worked with us a lot on our driving skills. Also she is damn cute and I love her southern accent. Denice is currently taking a 5 week womens only course with her and 9 other ladies. Frustrating it is, but if you really want something frustrating try Farming.

A little update on my golf game here. I thought I had my driving down. I had all my drives over the past month going nice and straight and for distance until the 17th hole on a cousre last Sunday when I shanked on off the tee right in to the side of person's house. Lucky I missed the sliding glass door. OOPPS. The house was about 25 feet from the tee and I just slammed it.

Another Update. Took the afternoon off today to play a little golf. Had a little melt down on hole 11. I have been try to use my hybrid field driver but I can't hit the side of barn with it. Well any way, I tried it again after a great tee shot and just shanked it 45 degrees to right and fucked up a good score. I calmly walked over to the nearest tree and broke the fucker into two pieces so I don't have to try to use it anymore. Denice looked at me as just asshole. I then picked up my trusty old 3 iron and slammed the ball 175 yards. No more hybrid clubs for me.

I haven't hit a golf ball in about 6 months or more but I'm expected to "carry the group" in a tourney next week with my brother-in-law. I don't see it happening, so hope he doesn't get too mad at me for not playing well! I think I told you I got my handicap down to 5, was shooting rounds in the mid/upper 70s but got to the point unless I was out there EVERY DAY, I wasn't going to get better. Since I'm not a PRO and can't play every day, that was the end of that. I have a hard time playing when I know I'm not playing at my potential - just too fucking competitive with myself. I know. I need to relax. Maybe I should drink more beer when I play . . .

When my game started to really improve is when my son-in-law reminded me one day that it was just a game. Nothing more and nothing less. If I have a good round like last Saturday that just great. If I have a bad round so what. I am paying to play the game and it is an expensive game to play. I am not getting paid to play the game.
It is just a new form of relaxation for me. A cart and a six pack of beer. I just have to remember to not stop after the front nine and eat a hot dog with a bag of chip.
