My search for the perfect browser continues.
Firefox continues to have its highs and lows. Lately, the lows have been winning. Frequent freezing, seizing, and and stalling finally pissed me off. I still can't get Chrome to purrrrr like a kitten, so I took a chance and downloaded Opera. I am now using it, at least for the moment, as my main browser.
I haven't figured out all of its quirks yet, but at least it is fast and slick like Firefox is SUPPOSED to be, and it seems much more full-featured than Chrome. So, future disappointments notwithstanding, it may be my new go-to browser. For awhile, anyway.
Anyone else using it? What do you think?

I may give Opera a try. Firefox is becoming a bit of a pain in the arse and I'm not a fan of Chrome.

Opera handles tabs well, but sometimes one of the tabs will have a little "dog-eared" corner on it. I can't figure out what that means, and haven't had time to burrow through the unimpressive help feature yet. Any clues?

I can't figure out what that means, and haven't had time to burrow through the unimpressive help feature yet. Any clues? For instance tabs you have not visited or that have been updated since you last looked at them, have little dog eared corners in them to distinguish them from those you have.We are making a lot of software and hardware ch-ch-changes in our office. A browser of choice is one of the ch-ch-changes. We have been locked into IE due to some legacy programs. Those are now going away so we have some options. I found the above comment for you while I was doing browser research this morning.

Thanks, Nola! That is interesting. In Firefox, a tab doesn't update until you visit it and refresh it by hand. It sounds like (from your quote) that Opera refreshes tabs automatically. I'm not sure if I like that better or not. I imagine it is probably turn-off-able, but I haven't found the control yet.

Firefox all the way here. Never a freeze and does everything I need. IE sucks. Period.

Firefox all the way here. Never a freeze and does everything I need. IE sucks. Period. I wish that were true for me, as I love the features of Firefox. But it is sooooo sloooowwwww for me. Any advice as to how to keep it from becoming such a dog? Maybe I'm just asking too much of it, keeping ten or more tabs open at all times.

So far, my main problem with Opera is that it keeps popping up security questions. Yes, dammit, you can trust Facebook as a trusted site. Oy vey!!

Well, the security pop-ups kept getting worse and worse, so I finally had to abandon Opera. The fat lady has sung!
But I found a reference to another Mozilla browser, called Waterfox. Actually, there are two of them (the other being called Pale Moon) that use the same basic Mozilla platform, but "optimize" the installation for performance. At what cost, I don't know. I'm using Waterfox right now, and it has all the same look and feel as Firefox. Hopefully I'll know soon if it is just as retarded in the performance department.

Four days later, and "Waterfox" is performing admirably. It looks for all the world exactly like Firefox, but without the crazy stupid memory and performance issues. Yeah, it's only been four days, but I'm happy enough to give it a provisional thumbs up. More assessments will be forthcoming as time marches on......
