I have a love/hate relationship with the Firefox browser. We've discussed it here before, but there are new developments.
I love its features and usability. But several months ago, I got really disgusted at it's poor performance and memory management. And when I found an old Firefox 3.6 installation file in my download folder, I installed it. MUCH more responsive than the then-current (10? 11?) version. I used it for about six months.
But recently, it started to be a liability. Too many websites wouldn't run on that outdated, almost a year old software! So I reluctantly updated to the latest, version 12.
As Gomer Pyle might say, Surprise, Surprise, Surprise! This latest version of Firefox, v12.0, is running like a champ! At least, it has for the first couple of days. Fast, slick, and very responsive. Maybe it will suck again after a week of accumulating errors, issues, and memory fragments; I really don't know. But for now, I am impressed.
Anyone else have relevant experiences to share?

Instead of upgrading, do an uninstall/reinstall. It's a PITA, but it may very well remove the detritus that could be slowing down the browser.

Well 12.0 is working juuuuuust fine for me. I'm going to go with the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" method and stand pat.

A little occasional housekeeping (like clearing temp files, cache, etc.) also might help.
