I don't recall the last time I saw that speed posted. Last week while traveling on the NY state Northway, I noticed troopers wouldn't bother you until about 80 mph. The posted speed is 65 but 80 is the typical traffic speed. From here to Montreal there's not many cars except for the capital region around Albany.

I saw that "85" will be going up in parts of Texas. Anita, I dont remember "80" in Michigan, but "75" was all over the state... Jevon's Paradox in action.

Jevon can drive 45 if he likes, but it's a long way to El Paso.

The speed limit on 130 (Austin bypass) is going up to 85 MPH, the fastest limit in the US. Step on it.

That is fast but I wonder what amount of cushion the troopers will provide. 90, 95, 100?

The maximum posted speed limit in the UK is 70mph though traffic tends to travel at 80mph on those roads. The cops generally give you 10 percent over the posted limit but will often turn a blind eye up to 90mph. Hit 100mph though and you get an automatic three month driving ban.

The speed limit on 130 (Austin bypass) is going up to 85 MPH, the fastest limit in the US. Step on it. Are trucks (big rigs) limited to a lower speed. Here in Fuckafornia the maxium that a 3 axel or larger trick can go is 55mph. That is also holds to people pulling anything behind the personal vehicle.

I remember driving through Michigan years ago, and the speed limit for eighteen wheelers was ten mph slower than cars. But there were so many big rigs on the road, that their limit effectively kept the cars to the same speed. I have no idea if it's still that way, as I haven't been there in a long time.

This is on a smooth as glass, wide, limited access toll bypass. One of the main reasons for the speed limit bump was to lure semi rigs off of I35 and keep them from going through downtown Austin. Toll roads are rare in Texas and many of the drivers avoid them. (I'm glad to pay $1.75 or whatever to bypass 38 miles of congested traffic.)

I re-read the story - the new 85MPH limit will also apply to a new 41 mile stretch scheduled to be completed in November, so you can drive 85 all the way from Georgetown (19 miles north of Austin) to San Antonio (75 miles south of Austin). They needed to do something to take the heat off I 35. The Austin-San Antonio run is frequently very congested. I35 is the main drag up from Mexico and is packed. When I was in UT Austin in the early 70s, I 35 south of San Antonio was just a two lane highway. When I went to Laredo with my buddies, we would drive down the stripe at 100 MPH. There were so few cars, we would stop in the middle of the highway to take a leak.
