My first smartphone (an HTC G1) had a physical keyboard. I never would have bought it without one. It also had a "virtual" keyboard, but I didn't like it, since the screen was tiny and the software was primitive.
When I upgraded to my second smartphone (HTC MyTouch 3G Slide), it also had a physical keyboard, because I believed I needed it. However, I soon learned that I *didn't* need it any longer. The screen was much larger than the screen on my old phone, and the software which ran the virtual keyboard was much more evolved, which made the virtual keyboard much easier to use. I soon found that I liked the virtual keyboard much better than the physical one, and began to resent the extra bulk and thickness that the (no longer used) physical keyboard required.
So now, on my third smartphone (MyTouch 4G) I have no physical keyboard at all, and consider it a vast improvement. I have evolved! But I admit that it is a very personal matter.
So, given that it is a personal thing based on many personal preferences, which do YOU prefer?

I will admit having a hard time hitting the virtual keyboard correctly except when using one finger.
Turning the phone sideways gives me a bigger keyboard but then I lose all but one line of text.
I wish I had a stick to tap with like I had with my old palm devices.

I'm still on a BlackBerry so I don't even know what you're talking about.

My Galaxy touch screen is a genuine pain in the ass. It constantly sneeks in words in anticipation of what I'm trying to write.

Gordon - they do sell styli for capacitive touch screens. They have sort of a spongy tip.
Gary - you can turn that off, you know. It's in your settings menu.

Thanks Jake, I realize that but leaving the auto correct/complete on is the lesser evil. When i get a chance maybe I'll let the application construct a sentance of it's own.
