I have used a wood chipper before and can see how the noise could distract you. "Loud" doesn't do justice to the racket that they make.

I bought a yard vac once. It also had a small "chipper" built in, for small branches. I couldn't even put my arm in it, but is scared the shit out'a me such that I never even put the smallest branch through it.
I'm guessing I really feared I'd fall and my dick would get sucked up in a most unpleasant fashion.
Sold that thing REALLY quick!

I have a small one for yard cleanup and tree pruning debris (1-2 inch max) . Worked with a big one right out of college when working with a landscaper (3-4 inch max), and had a very healthy respect for that. Those industrial strength beasts can chew up logs to 6" in diameter. Those things makes Fargo look like kids stuff.

I bought a small used one on ebay a few years ago. It wasn't powerful enough for my use but had all the danger. I sold it to the next highest bidder a few days later.

Used one once that chopped up stuff 6" to 7" into saw dust. That thing was loud and you had lots of respect for it.

I rented a full size rig years ago to clear a lot I flipped. All I wanted at the end of the day was 10 fingers, 10 toes and 1 p*nis.
And of course a cleared lot ..... :-)
