Our 4 pound dog got into some energy candy that someone left at our house... caffeine is toxic for dogs... we figure he got pretty close to the max dose he could get without killing him.
He is plenty hyper without caffeine... he didn't need more energy.
I have to admit we were pretty scared that he got a lethal dose, however now that he appears to be alright the antics were quite humorous. He was doing laps around the house at full steam for at least an hour... and even now is still more wound up than normal and probably will be for at least a couple more hours.
So please even as humorous as this was make sure you put anything with caffeine up where your dogs and cats can't get into it.

Your dog was probably not in serious danger. As a guideline, the lethal dose is considered to be around 70 mg per 1 lb body weight (150 mg / kg body weight). I think most energy bars come in at around 50mg apiece.
Glad to hear that things seem to be settling down... into the caffeine crash.

Actually, we looked up the content in what he ate... 300mg needless to say he was wound tighter than a 7 day clock...lol
He weighs right at 2kg so he was right at a lethal dose.

On a separate note... he is crashed on the floor in front of the heater right now... he just farts or belches once in a while... gotta love the caffeine crash.

Just to give you guys a little idea just how much caffeine this was... a cup of coffee has about 100mg of caffeine in it. So imagine a 4 lbs dog drinking 3 cups of coffee...

We need to try a little experiment with Chico.

That's all we need. A yappy Chihuahua wound up tighter than an eight day clock.

Glad your puppy is okay, RH, but somehow I can't picture you with a four-pounder. I would have guessed you as more of the hunting-dog type.

Well... my oldest daughter brought the puppy to our house for a WEEKEND almost 2 years ago... her mom had a fit that she was going to take the dog home with her... needless to say... we gained a dog.

Adorable!
And being the owner of a small cute puppy (and many cameras), I know that they are one of the most difficult photographic subjects around.

Try taking photos of animals in a STUDIO setting... makes nailing Jello to the wall look easy.
