A little game that some muso friends and I have been playing on the other board ... Facebook.
The Game

Nola, I can't listen to Mr Sandman without thinking of the movie Back to the Future. The two are inextricably woven together in my mind.

Nola, I can't listen to Mr Sandman without thinking of the movie Back to the Future. The two are inextricably woven together in my mind. That's strange. I hear it and all I can think is that I am starting to get pretty damn old! I prefer your Help to my Sandman.

Well thank you to Nola.. you have done my work for me. According to Wiki, "Mr Sandman" first topped the charts on December 4, 1954 (my exact birthdate), and stayed there for 7 weeks. By geroge, we have that bracketed pretty well... and happy birthday next week. Edited: and yes, Mr Sandman does equate with Marty McFly (Calvin Klein) vying for a piece of oedipal ass

OK at that same link I posted above, there were two songs that hit number one in March of 54... "Make Love to Me" by Jo Stafford, and "Secret Love by Doris Day.
That might explain it.

Make Love to Me is probably very racey for its day, perhaps causing a few elopements and both traditional and shotgun weddings.

According to BB's link, the number one song when I was born was David Seville's (later of Chipmunk fame) "Witch Doctor." I guess that explains my love of novelty songs!

Wikipedia says:
Name The band's name was inspired by some lines in a song of Mississippi John Hurt called the "Coffee Blues." John Sebastian credits Fritz Richmond for suggesting the name.[11][where?] The song "Coffee Blues" is a tribute to Maxwell House Coffee, which he describes, "rapping" in the beginning of the song, as being two or three times any other brand, ergo, he only needs one spoonful to make him feel alright, what he describes as "my lovin' spoonful" in the song.

The depravity of a caffeinated beverage?? what are we? Mormons? I always figured it referred to the drug spoon LOVIN' SPOONFUL - 1) from the lyrics of the old song "Coffee Blues". Possibly a drug reference to the spoon used to heat & melt drugs such as heroin for use. 2) Also that the amount of the sperm ejaculated by the average male is about a spoonful (see also the band 10cc

Looking at my birthdate through the years, there are some iconic songs, Mack the Knife in 1959, Turn Turn Turn in '65, NA Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye in '69, and so on ...
and one klinker that I think you will NEVER hear on classic rock radio... Pa Cartright in '64

www.joshhosler.biz/ In my case at least it shows the same song. Your mileage may vary.
