After living in Florida for 20 years I am finally getting around to planning a trip to Key West. I nailed some great airfare from Orlando for my birthday.
I know we have several frequent Key West visitors around these parts. Any favorite must see places on your list that we should frequent?
I have a couple of B&Bs in mind but we have not yet settled on a place to stay so suggestions on this topic are welcome also

We stayed at 2 different small boutique hotels but after getting familiar I'd like to.try this place. www.southernmostresorts.com/It has a nice sized pool with full sized.bar, fun activities, beautiful grounds and its next to a small but nice beach. It's also located at one end of Duval which is easy access to the action of town. Key West is great and we had a good time both during fantasy fest and mid summer. As I recall stuff I'll post. Have fun!

We didn't like Eden House, found it over rated and they have strict posted rules through out the grounds. It was an atmosphere killer. Never again.

The Southernmost used to be nice. Have lunch on the deck at the Ocean Key. I'm sure it has nice rooms but probably high. Ditto what Beeb said. I would not miss the Mel Fisher museum and some of the old home tours. I have been to KW many times but usually slept on the boat at Stock Island. I like the lighthouse. The Truman Annex is cool and there is a little cafe where Harry Truman usually ate breakfast when in KW. Have fun.

The ButtCrackers have done a couple take overs at the Duval Inn. Rooms are nice and reasonably priced. Nice heated pool and 5pm happy hour with a great staff. Generally they provide some munchies, cold beer, mixers and a bottle of wine (red & white), vodka, gin, rum, tequila and whiskey for the happy hour. It's nice to meet other guests or just lounge at the pool before dinner. Continental breakfast included. It is located 1/2 block off Duval St. www.duvalinn.com/room-rates.htmI haven't been but have read about Marrero's Guest Mansion which has a clothing optional pool area. Rumor is that it is often a gay destination. www.marreros.com/rooms.htmHave fun.

.... Have lunch on the deck at the Ocean Key....... I think Tex is talking about the same place I was going to mention. It's a hotel, the Ocean Key House or something like that, but I do remember the address: Zero Duvall Street. The bar is an outdoor pier right on the water. As you enter from the street, there are two arrows: one pointing to the left that says "Ocean" and one pointing to the right that says "Gulf." I haven't been there in almost twenty years, but I remember it being a great place to enjoy a beer, some conch fritters, and oysters in the sun. One day, the place was suddenly swarming with DEA agents in black vests and toting guns. They waited as a fishing boat pulled up. The fishing boat had found a crate full of cocaine, and they wanted to turn it in ASAP, before they got caught by either law enforcement, or the previous owners!
