Tonight, I'll be attending this event; later, when I have time (hopefully, this weekend), I'll post a summary on my blog. Until then, however, here are some links ... Tonight's seminars: www.whiskyadvocate.com/whiskyfest_new_york_seminars.aspTasting menu (and no, I don't think I'll be trying them all, unfortunately) ... www.whiskyadvocate.com/pdfs/WF-NY-2011-Program.pdfThis PDF file was too big to attach, so I'm just posting the link. WhiskyFest NYC 2012 is not a single night, it's a weekend! Now *that* one should be interesting!

I think they might identify you as a Stalker and ask security to escort you to the nearest egress.

Jack Daniels does not make bourbons. I had several Wild Turkey offerings, which I'll try to write about when I get a chance to post on my blog. FWIW, they also had beer ...

I have an unopned bottle of Gentleman Jack that was given to me in 1988 when it first came out by a friend of mine who worked for Jack Daniels at the time. Never have thought about opening it.
Has anyone tried the JD with honey in it? I don't want to buy a whole bottle so next time I make it to a bar I'll have to see if they have it an give it a try.

I agree Gary, those light fixtures have that "shaved down there" look to me.

That may be the coup de grâce for this board as far as ProBoards is concerned.

You might like Gentleman Jack, I can only describe it as extremely smooth and lacking that whiskey bite. I never had the honey flavored and I'm not compelled to do so, to me it sort of takes away from what JD is, a premium whiskey. Not fond of flavored vodkas either, I'll make the adjustments. I have tried and I do like Gentleman Jack. I just never have opened that bottle. I am not big on the flovored vodkas either. The only one I use is the apple vodka when I make Denice a apple martini.

They served plenty of food, too -- buffet tables alternated between hot and cold snacks.

They served cognacs and brandies at last night's event but I never managed to get to them. Next year's WhiskyFest takes place across an entire weekend, so hopefully I'll have a chance to try them then.

That's what I was thinking, too -- for one night, I had a mini-vacation as a "practice" for NYE next month.

Don't you know it's dangerous to wake up someone who's sleepwalking?
And while we're at it, WTF ever happened to your review of JW you mentioned in your recent trip?

Still forming an opinion, at this point I am not sure I am in agreement with the reviews. For one thing the taste, to me, is very light, think Caol Ila Light and does not linger, I am having a difficult time identifying its characteristics... more research is required, but for now not a drink that has a character.
Edited: Thought about the Caol Ila reference I made above, and decided to do a side by side test (I have a bottle of Caol Ila Connoisseur in the stash). That is the general taste that the JW Double Black has, EXCEPT the tastes are more subtle and the JW has a cleaner, drier finish to it. I would rate it 3-4 out of 10 on the peat scale.
I think that the major difference here is that the JW is a blend, and a non-age blend. To those unaware, a blend can get an age tag placed on it, but the age listed is that of the youngest "vintage" used in the blend. There is no requirement that an age be placed on any bottle of scotch. In general the minimum age you will see on a scotch is about 8-10 years, less then that is generally considered immature.
I believe, after more thought on the matter, that the blend JW put together for the Doubleblack has a significant reliance on the younger "vintages". This is not necessarily bad, its purely a matter of taste. As I stated above, I feel that this particular blend lacks "character", and I stand by that assessment. I wont turn my back on it, as it does have a place in the array of my collection, but I wont offer it up to anyone unless I know that they are turned away by some of the other more dramatic works.
All in all, I dont wish for my money back, but I would only recommend it if you wanted a bottle to fill the taste niche that a light beer would fill. I paid $55 for it, dont pay more, water down a less expensive Coal Ila instead.
