I have been here now going on two weeks and have had very little time to really see anything, but I can tell you the difference in how people act towards each other and to strangers is nothing short of amazing... everyone is friendly to each other. Drivers are polite on the roads... the laws here are sooooo relaxed. Concealed Carry... no problem, gambling... no problem, speed limits... who needs em...
I was sitting in a steakhouse here in Helena my first night in town... who walks in to eat dinner but the Gov... dressed in jeans and a polo shirt... no security, no entourage, just him and his wife.
No bullshit, I drove over 150 miles in less than 90 minutes... at any given time the state of MT has a max of TEN state troopers on duty, I like those odds...
I got sent up to a little town called Lewistown, MT for a week and it was nice... my hotel wasn't so hot... but it was the only place in town with a vacancy. I am in Helena till Wed, but going to Missoula, then to Great Falls and possibly up to Glacier County after that for a few days.
I am planning on taking the scenic route home... a two day stop at Yellowstone would put a nice little bow on this trip... the drive across WY, NE, and IA is what I am not looking forward to...

That area is on my bucket list. Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho are the only states I've never visited and Yellowstone would be a good place to start.

I used to work with a guy from Wyoming. From eastern Wyoming. He wanted no association with those yokels from western Wyoming.
I worked with another guy from Idaho. Northern Idaho. Don't confuse him with those dumbasses from southern Idaho!
I imagine this happens everywhere.......

We lived in SE Idaho for 3 years in the mid-80's. Our oldest son was born in Idaho Falls. We made several trips to Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Jackson Hole, and the Challis National Forrest, and Boise. It is beautiful country up there.
Northern Idaho is more closely aligned with Washington, Southwestern Idaho with Oregon and Southeastern Idaho with Utah. The mindsets are staggering.
