Since I do not have an iPhone, no I have not. How is it different from simply accessing the website through a browser?

Well, you CAN access it through a mobile browser (I'm doing it right now), but it involves a lot of scrolling in both dimensions. Apps that are designed for mobile deviices fit the content into the available real estate much better.

More useless information from me:
Where I'm working now, they have been developing iPhone and iPad apps for NYSE Web sites. In the lab, it was interesting to see how they tested the software: as a member of the Apple Developers Network, they are entitled to nifty little doodads such as "emulators" -- basically, software programs you run on a Macintosh that will allow it to emulate an iPhone/iPad.
As a result, in testing these apps, you don't necessarily need to buy all of the members of your development team one of these handheld devices -- instead, they run the app through the emulator on their desktop/laptop Mac. Fascinating stuff to watch.

The other thing about mobile apps is that they re-route the site content into a touch-screen friendly format/layout. It's like a totally different query to the same database.
For example: instead of assuming you will click on a link with a mouse cursor, they assume you will touch it with your finger. Which requires that the contact area be significantly bigger. They also generally completely redesign the layout. The content is all the same, mind you; but the layout and the controls are completely re-engineered. Kind of interesting, I think.......Jake

There is an iPad app for proboards but they want money for it. I'll just use the web browser, which works just fine.

I see that when you post, it identifies you as using the app and provides a link to download.

I see that when you post, it identifies you as using the app and provides a link to download. When you visit the board on an android device using the web browser it also prompts you to install the application.

And, I assume, will continually prompt you to do so until you plunk down your $3.

Three fucking dollars? Bastards. Unless there is a free version, I'll have to take a pass. Software is one of the three things I hate paying for.

And, I assume, will continually prompt you to do so until you plunk down your $3. I wish. Even after you install it, you get the prompt if you visit via web page. I was hoping that clicking on the 'yes' would take me to the app I paid for and installed. Instead, it takes you to their site telling you about the app.

In a round-about way, I rationalized that I was supporting this board by purchasing it. ;D Oh, and of course, the most obvious follow up question; Besides sex, what else do you hate paying for?

Parking.
I guess "supporting the board" makes sense. I hadn't thought of it that way. Might even be worth it!

I refuse to pay for shipping and wifi. And I refuse to frequent on the rare occasion that I find a restaurant that charges for refills or serves Coke by the can/bottle. Those places need to be burned to the ground.

I'll pay for shipping if the overall price is still a good deal. After all, you are paying for it even if they claim it is "free." WiFi, however, I have never paid for. Especially since I can tether my Android to my computer for free.

OOOH! And the icon in your post is different now! Neat-O! BTW, I just upgraded my phone last week to an Android (Droid Pro on Verizon), as poor Simon has now become painfully aware (sorry for all those "WhatsApp" notifications, BTW). I'm thinking about installing this new ProBoards app just to see what it's like.

Georgette is holding out for the Droid 3 which is available via Direct Fill this Thursday and in the stores next Thursday (7/14). (unconfirmed)
I am holding out for the Droid Bionic. The consensus is that it's release date is 8/4. Of course, neither Verizon or Motorola have released anything official at this point.
Baffles me as to why they do not start talking these new products up prior to the release date!!

May be a sign that they expect to be delivering a product that is either known to be defective or not competitive in this market. Or perhaps they have gotten negative feedback from "friendly" reviewers who've been given pre-release versions.

How does the Bionic differ from the Droid 3? Does one have a keyboard? Since they are being released about the same time, I'm guessing they are marketed at different users somehow.

The Droid 3 is a QWERTY slide out, 3G, dual core 1 GHz processor.
The Bionic is 4G (LTE), dual core, virtual keyboard. Bionic will be the first dual core LTE.
No bad reviews, just Moto and Verizon have been burned several times this year with missed dates on products, so guess they are a bit gun shy.

Sometimes, tech companies miss their deadlines because key product features are either late or buggy.
BTW, I think I may have lucked out getting my Droid last week -- today, Verizon announced that they'll be doing away with their unlimited data plan, opting instead for the tiered plan, similar to what AT&T did. Those new Droid devices, whenever they come out, will have to go on the new plan if Verizon is to carry them.

There certainly seems to be an issue with dual core processors and Verizon's LTE network. My Xoom still does not have the 4G upgrade.
Current customers with unlimited smartphone plans are grandfathered in even if they upgrade after tomorrow.
Bought my son the Samsung Charge last week so that he would not miss out on the unlimited plan.

Chicago is a 4G town for T-Mobile, and even though I only have a 3G phone, it experienced a noticeable bump in speed when they rolled out the 4G service. I'm not sure it is worth my while to upgrade my phone, as I'm getting 3 to 5 mbps downloads already. That's about the same as my home broadband!
Re: keyboards, my next phone will not have a physical keyboard. I've gotten to much prefer the virtual keyboard.

The reason I got the Droid Pro was specifically so that I would have a physical keyboard. That said, I'm now fat-fingering all over the place; it'll take a while for me to get used to this thing.
