Joe, if you have any input on this, great, but I'd also like to open it up to everyone ...
Someone I know is considering buying a friend a membership in Wine Of The Month Club as a birthday present.
Is it worth it? Any caveats/pitfalls/gotchas? Are there other, similar types of clubs out there that might be better alternatives (which allow gift memberships)?
Thanks ...

Beeb, I have heard of them but know really nothing about them. I think you get a wine or two a month for a low fee plus shipping. All I can say is that I have never heard anything bad about them.
I belong to one winery that has a membership and they ship me two bottle of wine every other month at 30% off retail value plus shipping. This winery is from Washington. I don't belong to any winery club memberships locally since I can almost walk out my back door and buy wine direct at the winery at 40% to 50% off retail.

Thanks for the feedback. I suggested to this guy that as an alternative, maybe he could buy his friend a wine class at The Astor Center here in NYC (www.astorcenternyc.com).

I guess I would rather belong to a winery wine club than a generic wine of the month club, just seems like a winery club would be more likely to be sending out a good product since their name is attached.

Interesting observation. I hadn't considered that. Thanks.
