We have lift off of the final launch of the shuttle Endeavour. Way too cloudy to get a view from our office today but it is still a great way to get the week started. I sure hope we have clear skies in July for the final launch of Atlantis. A shuttle launch is truly glorious to watch

Watched the video stream. I will miss the launches. It was one thing that set America apart from the rest of the world. Yes Russia is still launching people into space, but its in a craft that could fit into the shuttles cargo bay, and a design that is basically unchanged since the 60's. China's manned spacecraft is essentially a copy of the Soyuz.
Yeah, we may very well have private enterprise launching people into space in the next few years, but it will be decades before anyone matches the shuttle.

It's high time the Government get out of the space business. Space exploration is too important to be left in the hands of bureaucrats and bean counters. Let's leave it to capitalists and scientists who understand its potential.

I repeat
Yeah, we may very well have private enterprise launching people into space in the next few years, but it will be decades before anyone matches the shuttle.
i.e. not in our lifetime

I think the private sector will get there a lot faster without the government in the way.

I agree with Gordon. It will be a long time.

Endeavour is home safely. Just heard the sonic booms about 10 minutes ago. The dogs were not happy and now I cannot go back to sleep.
Sad to think there is just one launch left.
