Anyone try out Firefox 4 yet? The reviews all say it is slicker and faster, but still just as much of a memory hog. Any opinions?

I down loaded it and it doesn't seem any faster to me and as you say it is a memory hog.
I am still running IE8 for most of my web browsing.

Chrome, baby, Chrome.

I like Chrome for its speed, but it just doesn't have the features of Firefox. The bookmarks are confusing, and searching within a page is a pain in the booty.

Have you tried either Safari or Opera?

No. Should I?

Well, my inclination is to say yes, but then again, I'm the same guy who thinks Chrome is The Absolute Shit, so take it for what it's worth.

F4 is getting a lot of press, and like Jake Chrome just seems a bit lacking. Im holding off ch-ch-changing to F4 until the new computer is in play

So exactly what are the requirements you guys find lacking in Chrome?
I keep in mind that compared to the other browsers, Chrome is a relatively immature browser given that it hasn't been around as long as the others, but I think is off to a better start than the others.

So exactly what are the requirements you guys find lacking in Chrome? Most of my problems with Chrome may well be because I just haven't figured out how to do the things I need to do. But they include: 1. Bookmarks. I just can't figure out how to create a bookmark in Chrome. That's a big deal for me. 2. Searching in a page. I have figured out how to do it, and it sucks. The little search tool goes away whenever you load a new page, which I find very inconvenient. 3. Print Preview - doesn't seem to exist. And lots of other little things like that that I can't recall at the moment. I'm not saying that they can't be done, but I haven't found them, and it isn't very intuitive.

Most of my problems with Chrome may well be because I just haven't figured out how to do the things I need to do. But they include:
1. Bookmarks. I just can't figure out how to create a bookmark in Chrome. That's a big deal for me. You click the star in the address bar
2. Searching in a page. I have figured out how to do it, and it sucks. The little search tool goes away whenever you load a new page, which I find very inconvenient. You've mentioned that before. It's not quite so much of an issue for me, though. If it's really a legitimate concern for you, have you considered submitting an Enhancement Request? If you go to Help, there's a link for Suggest A Feature. Alternatively, there's Report An Issue from the Tools sub-menu
3. Print Preview - doesn't seem to exist. You're not alone -- folks have been clamoring for this -- it'll be in the next release (v # 11). Check this link: www.google.com/support/forum/p/Chrome/thread?tid=29ea05faa34bade4&hl=en

Thanks for the bookmark tip. Silly me, I expected it to be in the "Bookmark Manager" sub-menu.

Actually, you can do it from there, too, but it's easier to use the star in th address bar.

Okay, I downloaded Firefox 4. I intended to install it in a separate location so I could go back to 3 if I didn't like it, but it automatically overwrote my old version! Fortunately, it hasn't shown me anything I don't like yet. I'll let you know if it is worth the upgrade after a few days of experience.
Couple quick notes: by default, it puts your tabs at the very top of the screen (like Chrome does) which I don't like, and it collapses your menu bar into one "Firefox" button, which I also don't like. But both are turn-off-able.....Jake
Edit - after several hours of use, I can report that it DOES seem to be a lot zippier than the previous version. Maybe because it is optimized to work with my i3 generation processor? Just a guess.
Edit again - after four days, I can say that I definitely like this upgraded Firefox. Zippier, more ergonomic, and nothing missing. Worth the free upgrade.

Firefox 5.0 came out last month, and like a sap I "upgraded" to it. It sucked. Fortunately, Firefox 6.0 came out today! and it pretty much restores the performance to that of 4.0. What kind of crack are those guys at Mozilla smoking these days?

None that I know of, but my point is that "free" software isn't always "free"; you may be "paying" for an absence of quality control.

Just saw the popup for FF6. I never succumbed to the temptation of FF5, so should I upgrade to 6 to stick with 4?

I haven't noticed much difference between 4.0 and 6.0, except for cosmetics. I'd stand pat if I were you, on the "if it ain't broke" theory.

IE9?? Good god my new computer that I just built I installed the lates Windows versoin, it came with IE8.. I had IE6 on my old computer.
I think its ALL version number envy and nothing more. Someone must have done a study which shows that people are happier with software with bigger version numbers. Realistically FF6 should be FF4.2. NO ONE comes out with 3 major upgrades one year, unless they are trying to inflate that version number.

My guess is that it's a marketing gimmick designed to give the impression of a mature product. Unfortunately (and of course, I'm making a rather broad generalization here), Engineering gets very little say in the actual versioning upon release; usually, it's strictly a marketing call. I've seen some release versions of products I've worked on that were absolutely inexplainable.

I bought a new Windows 7 computer in December. It came with IE8, but I didn't know that until just now, as I had never launched it!

IE9 has big speed improvements over IE8, it's pretty much comparable now with FireFox. Chrome still has the edge in speed, but I had to gave it up years ago because of constant compatibility problems.
