Happy Irish Columbus Day. Celebrate the country that made excessive drinking chic.

It's a madhouse here in Manhattan; my office is only a block away from the parade, but the police have cut off access on the side streets intersecting with 5th Avenue so both vehicular and pedestrian traffic headed crosstown is just plain SOL for today. I should've brought my lunch.

There is a bar here that starts the party at 6:00AM and goes to Midnight. They have the street covered with white, green and orange ballons and anunch of people running around in little green hats. My one night a year to eat corn beef!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amateur night. St. Patrick's Day and New Years Eve are when mere dilettantes try to do what we pros do all year long! Good night to stay home with a nice civilized martini.

Technically, those are called girl-tinis, not martinis. But a green olive is acceptable.

Here are some pictures from our local paper on their web site from the parade that they did here this morning. It has been going on for 17 years and I have never been to it.

St. Pat's parades always make me think of The Fugitive. The scene where TL Jones is chasing Harrison Ford through the parade was actually filmed during the actual parade!

Wasn't there another movie that had Chicago's St. Pat's parade? I'm thinking either Ferris Beuller or Blues Brothers.

I think Ferris Bueller had some sort of parade in it, but I don't remember what parade it was.
