In my narrow minded thinking I believe we should just call the season off and go straight to the World Series. If injuries can be avoided I just don't see anyone other than the Red Sox and Phillies in the mix this year. They have set the bar at an unbelievable height in my opinion.
Crawford playing in Fenway is going to make the Red Sox explosive and at the same time it rips the heart out of the Rays until they reload with Jennings.
And Lee to the Phillies is incredible. Makes me wonder if they can pull off 4 twenty game winners like the Orioles did in the 70's

The Phils getting Lee is a big surprise, but I have to wonder how much they'll miss Werth.

Also the Red Sox got Gonzales from San Deigo. Petco is a big park and he jacks them out of there on a regular bases. Just think of what he is going to do in Fenway. Boston will be hard to beat. No way will the Yankee's and Rays be able to keep up.
The Phillies will miss Werth, but I think with the pitching they now have and the rest of their line up they will be the team to beat in the NL. Phillies pitching is know better that the Giants. Halladay, Lee, Oswalt and Hamel.

Yanks not getting Lee will be a big blow for them, especially if Pettitte winds up deciding he's done.

Yanks not getting Lee will be a big blow for them, especially if Pettitte winds up deciding he's done. My fear is that with the loss of Lee they are going to go after Greinke from KC. I think this will be a huge mistake. The kid does not have the mental make up to handle pitching in the Bronx. It could crater his career.

I agree -- the guy's wrapped way too tight to be able to survive playing in NYC, especially with all the media attention. But the Yanks' scouting is usually pretty reliable, so I don't expect they'll really go after him all that aggressively, unless they feel unbelievably desperate. They might try for Peavy, instead.

I don't find either one of George's sons to be very bright. I think the team will die of old age. George may have been an asshole, but he was an asshole who knew how to run a ball club.

They (especially Hank) totally messed up re-signing Jeter with all the insults and innuendo.

Possibly our best player, Carl Crawford, signed with the Red Sox for 7 years, 142 million dollars. Carlo Pena went to the Cubs for one year and 10 million. WTF???

At least that's what Yankee fans want to believe.

Looks like Beltre is off to the Rangers. I wouldn't count them out for a repeat of the AL championship yet.

The dismantling of the Rays continues. After shipping Bartlett out earlier to the Padres they have now sent Garza to the Cubs.
None of this was unexpected and I think they have received some excellent minor league talent in return. I especially think the Cubbies greatly overpaid for Garza who is at this point still only a .500 career pitcher.
My hopes are that we have enough pitching and young talent to at least contend for a wild card this year.
But I think in 2 to 3 years when these minor leaguers start to hit the bigs then we should be back in the thick of things again

And the Rays keep shedding players. Balfour is gone and the Yankees sign Soriano today as their set up man for Rivera.
The Yankees are now paying more for their bullpen than the Rays pay their entire roster.

Looks like the AL east will be between The Yanks and The Red Sox. The Rays could be fighting for the cellar at this pace. Most teams like to go from worst to first, but the Rays may be doing the first to worst routine in 2011.

The Giants are not doing any better. They let Uribe and Renteria go. They brought in Tejada but I think his best years are long gone, so right now we do not have a real good short stop. Same with third base. We have Sandoval (the fucking Kung Fu Panda) who gained 50 pounds last season and couldn't even get out of his own way. I think they should trade his fat ass for a good 3rd baseman. I don't see them even making the playoffs next year.

I am going to have to digest this for a little while to see if I like it but I just read on line that Rays have agreed to terms with both Johnny Damon and Manny Ramirez. Hmmm.

I think Johnny Damon is a good addition for any team, but Manny could really fuck things up. He might be okay at first but if he gets board or pissed he can disrupt the whole club. Look at what happened in LA.
