Zombies are pretty much played out these days. Vampires are the "it" monsters for teenage girls, but zombies seem to dominate for everyone else. So do we really need another zombie production? Maybe, maybe not. But I did watch the premier episode of AMC's and director Frank Darabont's The Walking Dead tonight. So far, it has not presented anything groundbreaking, but it was very well done, and I enjoyed it a lot. What I really did like, and consider new, is that this is the first (as far as I can remember) "long form" zombie story. That is, a long term TV series rather than just a movie. In my opinion, a movie is a short story, and a TV series is a novel. In this context, The Walking Dead is the first zombie novel on television. That alone makes it worth a peek. I did program a series recording into my DVR, so that tells you that I consider it worth more than a casual look. What do YOU think?.......Jake

I just watched the fourth installment of "The Walking Dead." I'm still enjoying it. It is nothing groundbreaking, but it does maintain excellent production values, great acting, fine writing.
But it's main strength, as I alluded to in the previous posting, is the "long form." Since it is a TV series, and not merely a two-hour movie, it has the luxury of letting us get to know the characters, the situation, the subtleties. And the producers are using that to its full advantage, making it a sort of horror soap opera. Looking forward to more great stuff!.......Jake

I am caught up on all the episodes and have enjoyed it a lot. I agree it is not epic but they do an excellent job with it. The end of the episode last week really threw me as I did not see that scenario coming. From what I read it is holding fairly close to the plot line of the original stories
I have been struggling with the main character and what else he has been in. I know I can easily Google it and find out but I like to work the old brain a little . It finally hit me after the third episode that he was in Love Actually. Talk about a complete shift in plot and character!
I am enjoying Sunday nights again with Boardwalk Empire and Walking Dead back to back.

And what the hell is the idea with trying to go to Atlanta where they probably have the highest number of zombies per capita? That happens to me and I am heading to Savannah. I am going to find me a boat and live off shore where I am zombie safe. I can go back to shore at my leisure for supplies.
Plus with a big enough boat I can still vacation at Hedo assuming it does not allow zombies on site unless they are prostitutes.

Water doesn't keep you safe from Zombies. I remember one movie* where they thought a river would keep out the zombie army. Nope, they just walked across the bottom of the river to the other side. Being dead, there was no danger of drowning.
*I think it was George Romero's "Land of the Dead" from 2005; the one with Dennis Hopper

I was thinking that but also these clowns can barely walk. How can they possibly stand up against a current or tide? Plus if they are underwater I am assuming they can neither smell me or hear me so what would cause them to surface after 3/4 mile and find my boat.
I know I am way over thinking this but we need to be prepared.

Talk about being prepared - I can't believe that camp of survivors in the latest episode went to sleep without so much as a watchman keeping an eye out for walkers.

I am thinking Merle is still just a tad pissed off so he tricked a bunch of walkers into the back of a cargo van and let them loose outside of the camp.

No. I think it is plausible. It would have been cool if they had not found his hand sitting on the roof and instead it showed up half eaten on the ground at the camp after the attack.
And what about Merle's brother reusing the arrows after he shoots the zombies? Does that mean the one guy that he shot in the ass is now going to turn into a zombie too?

I like how he used his brother's hand to show what a bad-ass he is!
Are we the only ones watching this show around here? Sure looks like it.

A little nervous now after the episode last night. I thought it was the weakest of the season. I viewed it as a sort of bridge episode to tie up some loose ends and prepare for a 90 degree plot turn going forward.
And the previews for the season wrap have me concerned about the plot turn. What I have enjoyed the most so far has been the sort of primal individual/group survival mentality against the walkers. Next week has me concerned that it is going to turn next season into some sort of Lost/X Files plot line with government conspiracy/intervention.
But I hope I am reading way too much into a few clips.

I liked this episode (week 5). Always good to see Noah Emmerich (the CDC dude). I like that they are starting to hint that we will learn a bit more about the "big picture" of what is going on. Either that, or we'll find out that even the official agencies are clueless, which is still more info than we've had so far.
One very interesting scene, but kind of quick and subtle: toward the beginning, where they are taking care of the fresh corpses so that they can't "rise again," and the short-haired woman is driving the pick-axe through her dead husband's brain. The camera takes an extreme low-angle approach, and the gore flying off the crushing skull actually splatters the lens! Normally, filmmakers like to take a neutral approach, and try not to remind you that you are watching a movie that is actually being crafted; but this is a sort of "wink" to the audience, letting you in on the fun. I thought it was cute and clever.

Just watched the sixth episode and season finale (what? A six-episode season? How the world has changed). Very good, I thought. Answered a few questions, and raised several more. Dale (the older dude played by Jeffery DeMunn) is definitely my favorite character. I'll be tuning in next season, for sure.........Jake

Finally had a chance to catch the final episode. I thought they did an excellent job of wrapping the first six episodes and setting the table for next season.
I am a bit alarmed at how fast they kill off the initial main characters but I understand this is in keeping with the comic series. I remember reading about how when Lost was originally laid out the plan was to kill off Jack Shepherd very early. However, he scored extremely high with the audience and the rest is history.
I have read a little about the pace of the comics and I like they concept that is ahead of us. They have unlimited story lines available to them. Like visiting the CDC they can now go out and have multiple adventures in various settings. It should never go stale

Yeah, I don't think they are going to be squeamish about killing off anyone, however "main" of a character. They can always rotate in somebody new to keep it fresh. If Andrew Lincoln is listed as a "guest star" when the next season begins, watch out!

Trailer for Season Two is out. I have to admit, it looks like pretty much more of the same. But I'll certainly watch at least an episode or two. What about the rest of yourse guys? Ready for more zombies?

I am in. It picks up right where they left off last season with the group driving away from the CDC.

I was looking forward to this show starting up again. Was. I saw an ad on TV, and while it looked good, somehow I found myself bored with the entire process. Maybe I'll get sparked again when I sit down to watch, but I'm not sure I will. At this point, I'm in the "who cares" zone.

Now that Breaking Bad has wrapped for the year I am in for the second season of The Walking Dead.
I am a little concerned that executive producer and writer Frank Darabont has left the show. His departure along with budget cuts has me a little worried.
But I think it is a lot like sex and pizza. Even if it is mediocre it is still a must have. But that is subject to ch-ch-change if it really tanks.

Watched the new episode of Walking Dead tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it; I'm so glad it's back! Great stuff, I'm anxious to find out what happens on next week's episode.

Damnation! AMC has stopped running three Mad Men episodes every Sunday! Guess I'll have to fill the void with Walking Dead. I did DVR the season premier, but haven't watched it yet. Stay tuned!

I enjoyed the premier. A couple of slow spots but I thought it set the tone for the new season. And from what I have read it is apparent that no character is safe this year.
I am not happy that they are doing a split season. They are showing six episodes now and then break until February when they will show the final six.
This may be the goriest series to date for a cable channel.

I think you're right about it being the goriest cable series to date; I haven't seen anything as graphic on TV before, but I love it! Definitely not a show for the squeamish.
Knowing that none of the characters are safe from being killed off definitely keeps the show interesting; last night's episode was a real cliffhanger for two of the characters. I'm looking forward to the next one to find out what happens to them.
I didn't know the season would be split...that can make for a long wait for it to resume, but we waited quite a while for season 2. I really love this show and definitely will continue to watch.

Watching the series this year is like riding a roller coaster. Very little action last night as we chug up that first big incline. I am thinking the human body count is going to be big next week with some major characters saying good bye.

Episode 4 last night and we have only covered 4 days since last season. This is slowly grinding to a halt for me. I cannot handle this pacing.
The only good part last night was the comic relief with the well scene.
