Airline Defends Dancing Flight Attendants

Proceeding on the assumption that five million YouTube viewers can’t be wrong, Cebu Pacific, the largest airline in the Philippines, has rejected criticism of its plan to have flight attendants perform dance routines while instructing passengers in safety procedures.

Video showing one of the routines, set to a Lady Gaga tune, was posted online four days ago, adding to the viral fame of the Philippine province of Cebu, which is also home to the dancing prisoners who are among YouTube’s biggest stars.

While the airline insisted that the rehearsed, professionally choreographed routines would “make people interested, showcase homegrown talent and raise morale,” ABS-CBN reported that the Flight Attendants’ and Stewards’ Association of the Philippines issued a statement calling the innovation a “demeaning and undignified” chore for “safety professionals.”

The union said that it was “deeply perturbed by the recent video spreading in the Internet showing dancing flight attendants while performing the safety demonstration of the flight,” All Headline News reported.
