Looks like we are putting a Chicago trip together for mid October. And I need some input from the Chicago crew as I cannot find the answers to some simple question(s) online.
I know we want to stay downtown. But there is a side trip planned to South Bend on Saturday to see a family friend play against Notre Dame. There has got to be some type of public transportation back and forth from Chicago to South Bend on game day?
I have researched Amtrak but their schedule is reversed from what it needs to be. The trains run in the evening on Saturday to South Bend and to Chicago in the morning.
Anybody have ideas or experience in attending Notre Dame games while staying in Chicago. I am trying to limit my driving to a minimum while I am up there.

You should probably use the RTA (Regional Transportation Authority), which can be accessed at rtachicago.com/. Go to their Schedules page, select the Metra Train tab, and the "Northern Indiana Commuter Transit District (NICTD) South Shore Line" route. I'm guessing the best "from" and "to" stations for you are Millennium Station in Chicago and the South Bend Airport. Or ask it to give you the "full schedule." It looks like it goes in both directions all day long, every three or four hours. Caveat: I have never ridden this route, or used that particular part of the website before, so you're on your own, accuracy-wise! Good luck!.......Jake

Thanks Jake. That is exactly what I was looking for but could not find for all the Googling I did.
We booked our flight this morning. Attending a Notre Dame home football game has always been on my to do list.
