I had to give this a day to settle myself down. Last play of the game (or should have been) a blown call by umpire Jim Joyce costs Detroit Tiger Pitcher Armando Galarraga a place in the history books as only the 21st perfect game in baseballs history.
Being what should have been the last out of the game, on a play that was cleanly executed, the Commish could exercise his power to rule that the runner was out, but that dies not seem to be in the offing.
To the credit of everyone involved, Jim Joyce accepted the fact that he blew the call, apologized and is settling in the realization that regardless of how the rest of career goes, this is the call he will be remembered for.
Armando Galarraga seems to be dealing with the situation in a dignified manner. If more of pro sports (and society in general) acted like these guys, the world would be a much better place.
As for me...fuckin ump

The kid was robbed, someone call a cop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Joyce admitted to his mistake and apologized. I think Selig should use his power and reverse the call, but the man has no balls. The final out come the game would not be changed, the Kid gets his perfect game which he deserves, and the heat is taken off of Joyce since he already took heat for his error.
I think replay should be brought into MLB just for these kind issues. MLB needs to get it's act up to date and Selig needs to stop living in the 1960's.
Joe( who thinks MLB need a new commissioner and would gladly accept the job for 50% of what the pay Selig now ;D)

Joyce was lucky this was MLB baseball and not some Little League game. The parents might have jumped out of the stands and beat him to death for a call like that.

Agreed, everyone acted admirably and the call should be reversed.

In a dissenting vote I say the call should stand. After the call was made and the game was final it went into the record book and so it should stand for all eternity. Thus is the glory of baseball.
George Will weighed in on a similar subject.
"(Barry) Bonds' records must remain part of baseball's history. His hits happened. Erase them and there will be discrepancies in baseball's bookkeeping about the records of the pitchers who gave them up. George Orwell said that in totalitarian societies, yesterday's weather could be changed by decree. Baseball, indeed America, is not like that. Besides, the people who care about the record book — serious fans — will know how to read it. That may be Bonds' biggest worry."

bGeorge Will weighed in on a similar subject. "(Barry) Bonds' records must remain part of baseball's history. No that turd should be removed as the home run king. I heard on a ESPN last night while I was spraying the vineyard that in 1992 former Baseball Commissioner Fay Vincent removed 50 no hitters from the record books. If he can do that then Selig can reverse the call, and Bonds can go fuck himself. Maybe the next commissioner will come in and ch-ch-change it someday. Joe
