A new one to make my hair stand on end....

I had thought I'd heard all the malapropisms that were likely to come down the pike, but tonight I learned a new one. Up there (down there?) with "one in the same" and the ever-classic "I could care less" now comes this new abomination:

"For all intensive purposes..."

Grrrrr!!!!! And it was on the Straight Dope Message Board, of all places; a locale normally populated by the most erudite and intelligent posters on the net!

We are surrounded by dumbasses!!!........Jake

P.S. - am I the only one pissed off by these illogical and incorrect constructions? Do you have any "favorites" that set your nerves on edge?

• "conversate" instead of "converse"

I had a co worker who used to say "I have no ideal" when he was asked a question he could not answer.

And my all time cringe statement..... he has prostrate cancer.

I've seen many misuses of "then" when "than" would be correct -- not just in the above phrase, though.
