You would've loved it. Prior to the tasting, they started with a buffet dinner that included roast beef, turkey, various pastas, rice, steamed vegetables (*and* portobello 'shrooms); at the end, they had dessert & coffee. There were too many whiskeys there to sample all of them, so I just concentrated on stuff that was new to me. Nice way to spend an evening after work.

Had a very different single malt at my favorite restaurant this evening. Old Pulteney. Its your typical highland scotch, except it has a salty finish that I have never experienced before. Highly recommended for that alone if you get the chance.

Thanks for the link -- just checked out the Web site. Never heard of it before. I'll certainly keep an eye out for it because now you've got me curious about the "salty" finish. I guess that's what they're alluding to by calling it a "Genuine Maritime Malt".
If it's bordering on brackish, however, I don't know that I'd want to use it as my after - dinner scotch, though.
BTW, how's the nose on it? Do you get a suggestion of the saltiness there?

Not a hint of it at all in the nose. The saltiness is far from obvious, just a hint of it on the lips about 10 seconds after finish.
