I've been looking at the new generation of TVs and trying to decide which way to go. Any and all thoughts or opinions are more than welcome. Thanks, John

Hey Mugsey, here is my semi-educated take on it:
Each technology has things it is inherently good at, and others it is bad at. Things like showing blacks, showing highlights, having wide viewing angles, lasting a long time, etc. None of them are inherently great at all of them. But..... over the years, the manufacturers have addressed the weaknesses and made them very trivial.
The only significant difference that I've seen lately is reflectivity. Plasma screens seem to show reflections of windows, lights, etc., in your TV room, which I find very distracting. LCDs have matte screens which dampen out the reflections. If that makes a difference, LCD is the way to go. If that is not an issue given your viewing location, then go with whatever looks good and has a decent price.
By the way, I recommend Amazon as a place to buy your big TV. Their prices are much better than brick and mortar stores, there is no sales tax and generally free shipping, and they will set it up for you for free. Just watch the price for a few days or weeks, as they fluctuate rapidly. Buy low.........Jake

I have to give high points for our plasma screen and the viewing angles it permits.

Years ago, plasma screens had a bad reputation for burn-in, but I've heard that's been overcome in recent models.
